About the Team:
XenServer is a powerful server virtualization platform based on the Xen Project hypervisor. It enables organizations to consolidate multiple virtual machines on a single physical server, simplifying data center management and increasing efficiency.
The XenServer Product Management sits within the broader Citrix Product Management Organization. The PM and Engineering team operate as a highly integrated unit, working together to develop and evolve the XenServer virtualization platform. We strive to bring new features and solutions to the market that fit the constantly changing hypervisor space.
Job Description/Responsibilities:
A XenServer Product Manager is the strategic leader for the XenServer virtualization platform, bridging the gap between customer needs, market opportunities, and technical capabilities. Their responsibilities span the entire product lifecycle, from initial concept to end-of-life.
Product Strategy and Vision: Define and articulate the long-term vision and strategy for XenServer. This includes analyzing market trends, competitive landscapes, and customer feedback to identify new opportunities and maintain product relevance.
Roadmap Development: Create and manage the product roadmap, prioritizing features and initiatives based on strategic value, customer impact, and engineering feasibility.
Customer and Market Research: Act as the voice of the customer. Engage directly with users, partners, and the Xen community to gather deep insights into their challenges and requirements.
Requirements Definition: Translate high-level business needs and customer feedback into detailed product requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria for the engineering team.
Cross-Functional Leadership: Work collaboratively with engineering, marketing, sales, support, and other teams to guide the product through development, launch, and go-to-market activities.
Business Case and ROI Analysis: Develop business cases for new features and products, including financial modeling, pricing, and packaging strategies to ensure the commercial success of XenServer.
Go-to-Market Activities: Partner with marketing and sales to create compelling product messaging, sales collateral, and launch plans. This may also involve delivering presentations to customers, partners, and at industry events.
Technical Acumen: Maintain a strong technical understanding of server virtualization, hypervisors, and the broader data center ecosystem to effectively communicate with engineering and make informed product decisions.
Product Performance Analysis: Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and product usage data to measure success, identify areas for improvement, and inform future product decisions.
Qualifications:
Education qualification: Engineering degree preferably in computer science or related domains. MBA from a reputed institution preferred.
Proven Experience: 10+ years of experience in product management, especially in the enterprise software or B2B tech space required. Prior experience with virtualization products or other infrastructure software is a significant advantage.
Deep Understanding of Virtualization: This is the most critical technical qualification. Strong grasp of server virtualization concepts, hypervisors, and related technologies like networking, storage, and guest operating systems.
Data Center and Cloud Infrastructure Knowledge: solid understanding of data center architectures, private clouds, and hybrid cloud environments is essential.
Agile and Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC): Experience working within an agile framework (Scrum, Kanban) is crucial. The PM must be able to write clear user stories, define acceptance criteria, and effectively collaborate with engineering.
Basic Technical Proficiency: While not required to be a developer, the PM should be able to understand technical conversations, evaluate trade-offs, and comprehend architectural designs. Familiarity with APIs, scripting, or data analysis tools is a plus.
Product Strategy and Roadmap Management: The ability to develop a long-term vision, define a compelling product strategy, and manage a dynamic roadmap is a core competency.
Market and Customer Analysis: The PM must be an expert in the virtualization market, understanding competitor products and customer needs through research, interviews, and data analysis.
Business Acumen: The role requires the ability to create business cases, analyze ROI, and make informed decisions on pricing, packaging, and go-to-market strategies.
Exceptional Communication: Must be a powerful communicator, capable of translating complex technical concepts for non-technical audiences (e.g., sales, marketing, executives) and conveying customer needs to engineers.
Leadership and Influence: This role requires influencing without direct authority. The PM must be able to lead cross-functional teams, build consensus, and drive projects to completion.
Problem-Solving: The ability to synthesize diverse inputs (market data, customer feedback, technical constraints) and creatively solve complex problems is fundamental.
