About Command Zero
Command Zero is the industry's first autonomous and AI-assisted cyber investigations platform, built to transform security operations. Our mission is to supercharge tier-2+ security analysis by automating complex investigations, reducing mean time to understand and respond to threats, and continuously improving SecOps outcomes. We're leveraging advanced AI technologies to solve the "last mile" of security operations, where determining the severity and criticality of escalated cases is crucial but often bottlenecked.
Command Zero develops AI agents that automate tier-2+ security analyst roles in cybersecurity investigation. Our AI agents investigate threats, analyze incidents, and generate actionable intelligence—work that traditionally required experienced human analysts. We operate at high velocity in a high-stakes environment where our technology directly impacts security operations for enterprise clients.
The Role
We're seeking a Senior Python Systems Engineer with an operational mindset to join our small Python engineering team building production-grade AI systems. This is not a typical software engineering role—you'll be building AI agents that operate in production cybersecurity environments where reliability, accuracy, and performance are critical.
You'll work on the core AI agent platform, implementing new investigation capabilities, debugging complex agent behaviors, and ensuring our systems perform reliably under operational pressure. The core challenges you'll be solving involve asynchronous integration with remote APIs, system-level performance tuning to prevent outages, and safe extension of large, interdependent systems. You will need to deliver key user-facing value quickly while applying engineering practices that minimize debt, keep systems extensible, and maintain long-term stability.
We’re looking for systems-focused Python engineers who:
- Excel at async programming and distributed system integration
- Diagnose and fix performance issues in production
- Navigate and safely extend unfamiliar systems
- Ship fast while keeping systems scalable and maintainable
If you come from SOC operations, infrastructure engineering, startup environments, or systems debugging roles, and have mastered Python as your primary problem-solving tool, you’ll likely thrive here.
Criteria
Technical Foundation
- 5+ years of Python development with strong systems engineering experience
- Deep knowledge of async programming, distributed systems, and networking
- Skilled at diagnosing and resolving production performance issues
- Comfortable working in large, multi-service codebases
- Experienced in debugging, profiling, and improving system reliability
Operational Mindset
- Experience owning production systems with real downtime consequences
- Steady under pressure during incidents or urgent deployments
- Delivers quickly without compromising system health or clarity
- Makes sound decisions amid uncertainty and shifting requirements
Core Capabilities
- Builds solutions that solve real user problems
- Ships quickly while maintaining quality and reliability
- Understands how distributed async systems behave in production
- Collaborates effectively under pressure and during fast iteration
- Diagnoses and resolves novel technical issues independently
- Learns new technologies quickly to solve immediate needs
Relevant Experience Context
While not required, experience in cybersecurity operations, infrastructure automation, startup environments, or complex systems debugging provides valuable context for understanding our operational requirements and customer environments.
What You'll Be Doing
- Build and extend AI agents in Python for cybersecurity investigations
- Integrate with remote APIs asynchronously, handling real-world failures and limits
- Diagnose and fix performance issues before they affect users
- Extend complex systems without compromising stability
- Improve system performance and reliability at scale
- Collaborate closely on platform development with a focused team
- Deliver impactful features quickly while keeping systems clean and stable
Why This Role Matters
Our product operates in production environments where security analysts depend on it for critical threat investigation. The systems you build will directly impact how effectively organizations can respond to cybersecurity threats. This requires engineering excellence combined with operational awareness—exactly the combination we're seeking.
You'll work in an environment that values **technical depth, execution focus, and pragmatic decision-making** under pressure. If you're energized by building systems that solve real problems at speed without compromising long-term system health, this role offers the opportunity to apply those skills to cutting-edge AI technology in cybersecurity.
Our Environment
- Small Python engineering team with direct impact on product capabilities
- Daily code shipping with weekly production deployments
- High-velocity startup environment with rapid technology adoption
- Direct collaboration on core AI agent platform architecture and capabilities
What We Offer
- Opportunity to work on cutting-edge AI technology solving real-world cybersecurity challenges
- Collaborative environment with industry experts in AI and cybersecurity
- Professional growth and learning opportunities
- Competitive salary and benefits package
- Remote-friendly work environment
- Chance to be part of a fast-growing company transforming security operations
Ready to build AI agents that operate under pressure? We want to hear from engineers who see themselves in this role and are excited about applying their operational expertise and Python mastery to real-world cybersecurity problems.
