About hyperexponential (hx)
At hyperexponential, we’re building the AI-powered platform that enables the world’s most critical decisions in a $7 trillion industry - which risks to take, and how to price them. These are the decisions that shape real-world outcomes: whether rockets successfully launch into space, autonomous vehicles make it to market, or communities recover after major storms.
Until now, insurers have been making billion-dollar decisions using outdated tools. We’re changing that. Our platform brings together data, AI, and human expertise to give insurers the fastest path from submission to decision - helping them move faster, act smarter, and take on more risk with confidence.
Backed by a16z, Highland Europe, and Battery Ventures, we’re scaling globally - already trusted by nearly 50 of the world’s largest insurers, with zero churn and billions in premiums flowing through hx.
What began as a single product in one market has rapidly evolved into a multi-product, multi-territory platform powering every stage of pricing and underwriting. AI is at the core of what we do - from building the world’s first domain-specific AI peer programmer for insurance (think GitHub Copilot with a PhD in actuarial science) to shaping agentic workflows that reinvent how this industry operates.
What makes hx different is the people who build it. Here, impact isn’t tied to title or tenure; it’s defined by the challenges you take on and the discipline you bring. Surrounded by peers who stretch you, you’ll do the best, hardest work of your life in a company engineered to endure.
If that sounds like you, join us in building what comes next.
About The Role
At hx, Central Functions power everything from finance and people operations to compliance and risk management. As we scale globally, efficiency, accuracy, and reliability in these teams are critical to sustaining growth and enabling our mission to redefine how the insurance industry makes decisions.
Our operations teams are collaborative, ambitious, and deeply committed to excellence. We look for people who challenge ideas, spot inefficiencies before others, and proactively create solutions. With the right systems, we can remove the bottlenecks of manual work and free teams to focus on high-value strategic impact.
As an AI Automation Engineer, reporting into the Chief Operating Officer, you’ll build and deploy AI-powered automation systems that eliminate manual inefficiencies, improve data accuracy, and scale our operational capabilities. You’ll partner across Finance, People, Talent, Legal, Risk and Compliance, acting as the builder and integrator of the workflows that keep hx moving fast and focused.
What You'll Be Doing
Design and maintain automation workflows across Central Functions, building and maintaining 15+ production automations within 6 months, achieving 95%+ uptime, and reducing manual processing time by 60% for key operational tasks.
Partner with stakeholders in Finance, People, Talent, Legal, Risk and Compliance to identify and automate 25+ repetitive processes within 12 months, delivering measurable efficiency gains.
Prototype and deploy LLM-powered workflows and agents (e.g., for onboarding, compliance checks, reporting and document classification) that eliminate manual effort and free teams to focus on strategic work.
Research and test emerging AI/automation tools, executing 2–4 quarterly pilot projects with at least 60%+ progressing into production.
Build dashboards and reporting systems that surface operational KPIs and highlight quantifiable efficiency improvements worth £200K+ annually.
Implement strong governance and documentation for all workflows, ensuring transparency, audit-ability, and compliance with data standards.
What You'll Need To Have Done
Built and scaled production automation workflows using tools like n8n, Zapier, or Make, with measurable uptime and adoption.
Developed AI/LLM-powered processes that automated repetitive operational tasks and delivered demonstrable impact e.g. saving teams time, achieving cost savings or delivering measurable quality gains
Delivered dashboards and reporting that improved data accuracy and visibility as measured by improvements in data quality and/or reducing reporting time per month or other measurable impact
Collaborated with non-technical stakeholders (Finance, Legal, Compliance, etc.) to gather requirements and deliver systems that met business needs.
Executed pilot projects with new AI/automation tools and successfully moved a high proportion from pilot into production.
Demonstrated hx values by proactively solving problems, showing resilience, and delivering impact beyond core responsibilities.
You’re Unlikely To Thrive Here If
You prefer following existing playbooks instead of building solutions from scratch.
You’re hesitant to experiment with new tools or iterate quickly in fast-changing environments.
You avoid working directly with non-technical stakeholders to understand and solve their challenges.
If reading our Culture document leaves you feeling neutral rather than energised, hx may not be the place where you’ll do your best work. We’re building something that asks for commitment and conviction, and we want you to feel excited by the opportunity to grow with us.
Compensation
At hx, we’re committed to salary transparency. You’ll always have clarity on pay early in the process - our Talent Partner will share details with you during initial conversations - and we’re working towards publishing salary information for all roles globally.
Because we’re building at the intersection of technology/SaaS and insurance, our roles don’t always map neatly onto traditional benchmarks. Our approach is to design compensation that’s competitive in the market, fair across teams, and aligned with the impact our people make.
Equity: We offer equity across all roles at hx, making it a significant component of total compensation. Your talent partner will be able to share more details about this.
