Why This Job is Featured on The SaaS Jobs
This Engineering Manager role sits at a core SaaS problem: turning messy, high-volume customer content into reliable platform capabilities. “Doc Processing” in an enterprise AI product typically becomes a foundational layer that many features depend on—ingestion, retrieval, and downstream workflows—making it a strong lens into how modern SaaS platforms operationalise data-intensive systems at scale. The listing signals a product where document understanding is not a side project but central to the platform’s value.
From a SaaS career standpoint, the mandate spans the kind of cross-functional engineering leadership that compounds over time: shaping a technical roadmap, balancing research-to-production constraints, and building systems that must meet enterprise expectations for accuracy, latency, and reliability. Experience here tends to translate well to other SaaS domains that rely on pipelines, search, and data infrastructure, especially where platform work underpins multiple customer-facing surfaces.
This is best suited to an engineering leader who likes being close to architecture and delivery, not purely people management. It will appeal to someone comfortable coordinating with Product and adjacent engineering groups, and who prefers roles where success is measured by durable platform outcomes rather than isolated feature output.

At Harvey, the future of professional services is being written today — and we’re just getting started.
Role Overview
Harvey is building the future of legal work, and we’re looking for an Engineering Manager to help lead the charge. Our Document Platform team sits at the core of our platform—enabling our AI systems to make sense of massive troves of legal documents. From OCR to vector storage, our systems must be fast, accurate, and scalable to meet the demands of the top law firms in the world.
You’ll lead a team of exceptional engineers to extend our capabilities, push the boundaries of what’s possible in document understanding, and ensure our infrastructure scales with our users.
We move with urgency, bias toward simplicity, and expect our leaders to be hands-on when needed. If you’re energized by ownership, decisive execution, and solving real user problems, we'd love to hear from you.
What You'll Do
Lead and grow a team of world-class engineers working on document ingestion, understanding, and retrieval.
Define and execute a long-term technical roadmap for our document processing systems that aligns with Harvey’s product vision and the needs of our customers.
Collaborate closely with Product, Infrastructure, and Applied AI teams to design robust systems that bridge cutting-edge research and production readiness.
Stay hands-on: unblock engineers, participate in architecture reviews, and dive into code when needed.
Cultivate a culture of engineering excellence, thoughtful experimentation, and continuous improvement.
What You Have
2+ years of experience in a software engineering management role, leading backend teams operating in technically complex domains.
A track record of leading high-performing, engaged engineering teams.
A strong foundation in backend systems, with 5+ years of hands-on experience designing and operating distributed systems in a cloud environment.
Ideally, direct experience in architecting or scaling document ingestion and processing, search systems, or data infrastructure (e.g. OCR pipelines, Elasticsearch, vector databases).
Compensation Range
$260,000 - $330,000 USD
