Why This Job is Featured on The SaaS Jobs
Airtable’s Android role stands out in SaaS because it sits at the intersection of a workflow platform and a first-class mobile product. Rather than translating a web experience onto a smaller screen, the listing signals a mobile-first approach where Android becomes a primary surface for customers managing data and processes on the go. That places the work close to how SaaS products broaden adoption through accessibility and everyday utility.
For a long-term SaaS engineering career, this position offers exposure to full product lifecycle ownership on a client that directly impacts retention and engagement. The remit touches roadmap definition with product and design, data-informed decision making, and reliability considerations around customer data, all common threads in mature SaaS environments. Building new mobile equivalents for core features also develops the skill of translating platform capabilities into coherent end-user experiences.
The role is best suited to an engineer who prefers clear ownership, cares about UI craft, and can balance iteration with quality. It will fit someone comfortable collaborating cross-functionally and making judgment calls with incomplete information, particularly when shaping how a SaaS product behaves on mobile rather than simply implementing predefined specifications.
The section above is editorial commentary from The SaaS Jobs, provided to help SaaS professionals understand the role in a broader industry context.
Job Description
Airtable's Android app presents a rare opportunity to design and develop novel mobile interfaces that elegantly support a wide range of workflows so that our customers can organize anything, anywhere.
In developing Airtable's Android app, we've taken great care to not simply port our web interface to mobile, but rather to design each interaction and animation in a mobile-first and touch-friendly way. We're looking for someone to pick up the reins and lead all things Android. You'll not only fully own the development of new features on Android, but also have the opportunity to rethink existing core Airtable features that currently have no mobile equivalent by creating them from scratch on Android.
What you'll do
- Take ownership and responsibility for designing, building, testing, iterating, releasing, and maintaining the Airtable Android application
- Work with cross functional peers (PM, Design) to define the product roadmap
- Analyze and visualize data to drive product insights and to inform our decisions
- Collaborate with the mobile and broader-engineering team to develop requirements and validate technical specifications for your solutions
- Work autonomously and with QA to ensure the safety, effectiveness, and reliability of Airtable’s systems and our customers data
- Provide mentorship and feedback to teammates to make your team the best version of itself. Motivate and encourage everyone to give their best work.
Who you are
- You have 3+ years of Android development experience.
- You have extensive experience with developing high-quality, UI-rich Android apps — as a bonus, we’d love to see your apps in the Play Store!
- You have deep knowledge of Java and/or Kotlin
- You have strong product and design sensibilities, and enjoy perfecting the details that matter
- You take a thoughtful approach to decision making; knowing when to move fast and when to do things right
