Why This Job is Featured on The SaaS Jobs
This Engineering Manager, Document Platform role sits at a core SaaS problem space: turning messy, high-volume customer content into dependable product capabilities. The remit spans ingestion, understanding, and retrieval, which are foundational platform concerns for AI-enabled SaaS serving enterprise workflows. With customers distributed globally, the platform emphasis signals production-grade expectations around scale, accuracy, and reliability rather than isolated experimentation.
From a SaaS career standpoint, the role builds durable leadership experience at the intersection of platform engineering and applied AI delivery. Managing systems such as OCR pipelines, search, and vector storage develops instincts for operating data-heavy services under real user demand, including roadmap tradeoffs, cross-team alignment, and operational quality. The mix of hands-on technical engagement and people leadership is also a common progression path for engineering leaders in SaaS companies where platform leverage compounds across multiple product surfaces.
This is best suited to an engineering manager who prefers owning a technical domain end to end and working closely with product and infrastructure peers. It will fit someone comfortable translating ambiguous platform needs into concrete architecture and execution plans, while still leaning in on reviews and unblocking work. Interest in the mechanics of enterprise SaaS delivery, especially document-centric workflows, is a strong alignment signal.

At Harvey, the future of professional services is being written today — and we’re just getting started.
Role Overview
Harvey is building the future of legal work, and we’re looking for an Engineering Manager to help lead the charge. Our Document Platform team sits at the core of our platform—enabling our AI systems to make sense of massive troves of legal documents. From OCR to vector storage, our systems must be fast, accurate, and scalable to meet the demands of the top law firms in the world.
You’ll lead a team of exceptional engineers to extend our capabilities, push the boundaries of what’s possible in document understanding, and ensure our infrastructure scales with our users.
We move with urgency, bias toward simplicity, and expect our leaders to be hands-on when needed. If you’re energized by ownership, decisive execution, and solving real user problems, we'd love to hear from you.
What You'll Do
Define and execute a long-term technical roadmap for our document processing systems that aligns with Harvey’s product vision and the needs of our customers.
Collaborate closely with Product, Infrastructure, and Applied AI teams to design robust systems that bridge cutting-edge research and production readiness.
Stay hands-on: unblock engineers, participate in architecture reviews, and dive into code when needed.
Cultivate a culture of engineering excellence, thoughtful experimentation, and continuous improvement.
What You Have
2+ years of experience in a software engineering management role, leading backend teams operating in technically complex domains.
A track record of leading high-performing, engaged engineering teams.
A strong foundation in backend systems, with 5+ years of hands-on experience designing and operating distributed systems in a cloud environment.
Ideally, direct experience in architecting or scaling document ingestion and processing, search systems, or data infrastructure (e.g. OCR pipelines, Elasticsearch, vector databases).
Compensation
$260,000 – $330,000 USD
