Why This Job is Featured on The SaaS Jobs
Backend engineering roles in SaaS increasingly sit at the intersection of product data, third party ecosystems, and reliability. This position stands out because it is centered on the connective tissue of a modern SaaS platform: ingesting and normalising data from tools like Jira and GitHub, then turning it into dependable pipelines and exports that other parts of the product can trust.
For a long term SaaS career, the work maps closely to problems that recur across subscription software businesses: building integration surfaces that must tolerate upstream change, designing ETL that balances batch with near real time needs, and using infrastructure as code to keep environments reproducible. Experience with orchestration frameworks and API client design also transfers well to analytics, platform, and data platform teams across the SaaS landscape.
This role is best suited to a senior engineer who prefers owning end to end systems rather than isolated services, and who enjoys performance and operational considerations as much as feature delivery. It will fit someone comfortable collaborating across functions, translating ambiguous integration requirements into durable interfaces, and iterating on internal tooling that improves developer throughput over time.

Job Description
The team at Jellyfish is changing how product development happens, helping engineering teams learn how to work together and communicate more effectively. We're seeking a Senior Backend Engineer who's passionate about building robust data pipelines, integrating with third-party APIs, and working with large-scale data infrastructure. Ideally, you're performance-minded and have experience with modern ETL patterns, workflow orchestration engines, and building API clients. This is a great opportunity to be a member of an exceptional engineering organization with high agency: where you can help shape the features your team builds and how your team builds them.
If this sounds exciting, we'd love to hear from you!
What you'll do:
- Build and maintain data pipelines for storage, transformation and export
- Develop integrations with third-party tools (Jira, GitHub, GitLab, incident management tools, AI coding assistants, etc.)
- Create and maintain API clients to ingest data from external services
- Manage infrastructure as code using Terraform
- Build workflow orchestration for near-real-time and batch data processing
- Design and implement data export pipelines
- Develop internal tooling and agentic workflows to accelerate internal development
- Provide technical expertise within your team and across the organization
- Communicate effectively about project status and technical issues
About you:
- You know how to build and scale data pipelines
- You are a strong programmer with extensive Python experience
- You have experience building and maintaining integrations with third-party APIs
- You're comfortable with infrastructure as code (Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar)
- You have familiarity with workflow orchestration tools (Prefect, Airflow, Dagster)
- You are great at asking questions, figuring out what needs to be done, building consensus, and executing
- You consider both the needs of the user and the needs of the business when designing a solution
- You love learning new things and sharing knowledge with others
- You have strong communication skills and enjoy working as part of a team
- Located in EST or CST time zone
Bonus points if:
- You have worked at a rapidly scaling startup before and loved it
- You have experience with Delta Lake and lakehouse architectures
- You've built integrations with developer tools (Jira, GitHub, GitLab, CI/CD systems)
- You have experience with AI/LLM tool integrations (Claude, Copilot, etc.)
- You bring experience and opinions about the different ways engineering teams can work and the tools they use
A list of job experiences and qualification requirements is great, but humility, a performance-driven attitude, and a team-player approach are most important to us. We love to have fun and win in the process. We only hire people who have a passion for building great companies in an environment where a sense of humor is a must.
Occasional travel may be required.
Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the US. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa at this time.
