Why This Job is Featured on The SaaS Jobs
Platform infrastructure roles sit at the center of modern SaaS, and this one is anchored in an internal developer platform that also has an external footprint through Backstage and Portal. The remit spans multi cloud foundations, security posture, and developer tooling, which are the underlying systems that determine how quickly product teams can ship and how safely services run at scale. The mention of AI agents running on top of the platform adds a timely infrastructure angle: supporting new production workloads with different reliability and observability needs.
For a SaaS career, this kind of work builds durable leverage. Operating cloud primitives, CI/CD, and incident response develops the operational judgment that transfers across B2B and consumer SaaS environments. End to end ownership from design to rollout reinforces systems thinking around cost, performance, and failure modes, while cross team collaboration exposes how platform decisions shape engineering velocity across an organization.
This role tends to suit engineers who prefer foundational problems over feature delivery and who like pairing build work with operational responsibility. It also fits someone who wants to deepen cloud and Kubernetes based infrastructure skills while contributing to tooling that other engineers rely on daily. Comfort with ambiguity and a steady approach to reliability work are strong signals of alignment.

Job Description
The Platform team creates the technology that enables Spotify to learn quickly and scale easily, enabling rapid growth in our users and our business around the globe. Spanning many disciplines, we work to make the business work; creating the infrastructure, tooling, frameworks, and capabilities needed to welcome a billion customers.
What if the systems you built changed how millions of developers work, not just at Spotify, but across the industry? The Platform Developer Experience (PDX) studio builds the infrastructure and internal products that power how Spotify engineers ship software. Within PDX and Backstage Product Area, the Platform Infrastructure team is building the next generation of cloud and compute foundations that power our internal developer platform and the AI agents running on top of it, and help bring those capabilities to market through Portal, Spotify's external developer platform built on Backstage.
You'll join the Platform Infrastructure team within the Backstage Product Area. The team owns the cloud foundations, developer tooling and security posture that the rest of Platform, and ultimately all of Spotify R&D, depends on. You’ll collaborate closely with experienced engineers (both human and AI-assisted) while operating at real-world scale, with deep observability, strong safety boundaries, and the unique reliability challenges of agentic production systems.

What You'll Do
- Build and operate components of our multi-cloud foundations across GCP and AWS, including compute, storage, networking, identity, and platform primitives
- Own components and features end-to-end: from technical design through implementation, rollout, and on-call
- Contribute to developer tooling (CI/CD, build systems, deployment, observability) so engineers ship safely and quickly
- Participate in incident management, on-call, and postmortems, using AI assistants to accelerate root cause analysis
- Collaborate across Platform and R&D to improve developer productivity
- Contribute to Backstage and Portal to simplify cloud and tooling access
- Grow through code reviews, design discussions, and collaboration with senior engineers
Who You Are
- You have 2+ years of backend or infrastructure engineering experience working on production systems
- You have experience building or operating cloud infrastructure (GCP and/or AWS), with familiarity in Terraform and Kubernetes
- You are proficient in at least one modern language (TypeScript, Java, Go, or Python)
- You have experience with CI/CD, deployment systems, and observability tooling
- You think about systems in terms of reliability, performance, cost, and failure modes
- You are curious about AI/LLM systems and their application to infrastructure
- You take ownership of your work and follow through on problems
- You communicate clearly and collaborate effectively across teams
- You are open to feedback and motivated to grow
Where You'll Be
- This role is based in New York, NY
- We offer you the flexibility to work where you work best! There will be some in person meetings, but still allows for flexibility to work from home.
