Why This Job is Featured on The SaaS Jobs
This Senior GTM Engineer role sits at the intersection of SaaS revenue operations and applied AI engineering, where competitive advantage increasingly comes from how well companies operationalise data and automation inside the tools GTM teams already live in. The remit spans marketing, sales, and customer success systems, pointing to a mature SaaS environment with established platforms like Salesforce, Marketo, and Snowflake and a mandate to make AI production-grade rather than experimental.
For a SaaS career, the standout value is end-to-end ownership of how AI changes commercial execution: portfolio prioritisation, build versus buy decisions, governance, and measurable impact. Experience designing reusable infrastructure, integrating across the modern martech and revtech stack, and setting evaluation frameworks translates directly to other SaaS organisations trying to industrialise agents and workflow automation. The role also builds fluency in turning technical capability into operating rhythm through QBR narratives, adoption paths, and cross-functional alignment.
This is best suited to a senior operator-builder who enjoys ambiguity, can switch between executive-level decisioning and hands-on shipping, and prefers influence-driven leadership over formal authority. It will fit someone motivated by systems thinking, disciplined experimentation, and the practical realities of deploying AI into frontline GTM workflows at scale.
The section above is editorial commentary from The SaaS Jobs, provided to help SaaS professionals understand the role in a broader industry context.
Job Description
Toast creates technology to help restaurants and local businesses succeed in a digital world, helping business owners operate, increase sales, engage customers, and keep employees happy.
The Marketing Operations team is looking for a Senior, GTM Engineering & AI Innovation to set the strategy — and ship the systems — that transform how Toast's go-to-market teams operate. You'll own the multi-quarter roadmap for AI in GTM, lead cross-functional initiatives across Marketing, Sales, Customer Success, and Engineering, and remain hands-on as a builder: designing reusable infrastructure, deploying production agents, and translating AI capability into measurable revenue impact. This is a player-coach role for a senior builder who is equally comfortable defending a portfolio investment thesis to executives and shipping a Clay workflow before lunch. This role is open to remote candidates.
About this roll* (Responsibilities)
-
Own the AI-in-GTM strategy and roadmap. Define and maintain a multi-quarter portfolio of AI initiatives across Marketing, Sales, and Customer Success — prioritized against revenue-direct, revenue-adjacent, and strategic/foundational tiers.
-
Lead build-vs-buy at the portfolio level. Drive evaluation, business case, and final recommendation for major AI investments. Defend the call to executive stakeholders even when the conclusion is politically inconvenient.
-
Design and manage governance. Define governance for AI solutions across GTM at scale - what makes it to production, how is it maintained and monitored
-
Architect and ship reusable GTM infrastructure. Partner with engineering (BTT and platform teams) to design connectors, MCP servers, and data pipelines that surface AI insights inside Salesforce, Gong, Slack, Google Drive, Marketo, and Snowflake — where reps already work.
-
Run AI pilots from POC to scaled adoption. Lead Voice AI SDR pilots, inbound enrichment, Intercom AI chat, outbound prospecting, and Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) from hypothesis through deployment, with clear success criteria and structured eval frameworks.
-
Drive AI enablement and adoption at org scale. Move the marketing and sales orgs from "directive to use AI" to fully integrated workflows. Design stepping-stone adoption paths, not mandate-to-automation leaps.
-
Build evaluation frameworks for production AI. Stand up prompt evals, agent benchmarking, regression testing, and quality scoring so AI systems are measured against ground truth and human baselines — not vibes.
-
Lead cross-functionally without direct authority. Align Demand Gen, SDR Ops, Product Marketing, Sales Ops, and Engineering on shared roadmaps, shared data contracts, and shared definitions of success.
-
Represent the function to executive stakeholders. Translate technical work into business outcomes for VP and C-level audiences. Own quarterly business reviews, investment requests, and the narrative for how AI is reshaping Toast's GTM motion.
-
Coach a growing team of builders. Mentor AI Solutions Specialists and embedded GTM engineers. Set technical bar, review architecture decisions, and create the documentation, playbooks, and reusable templates the broader org leverages.
-
Stay hands-on. Continue to design, build, and deploy custom AI agents and agentic workflows yourself. The best engineers in this role ship code.
Do you have the right ingredients*? (Requirements)
- 10+ years in growth marketing, product management, GTM engineering, systems, or operations, including 4+ years in GTM Engineering, AI Engineering, or Solutions Engineering.
- Track record of owning AI or GTM strategy end-to-end — from problem identification, through portfolio prioritization, build-vs-buy, technical design, deployment, and measurable revenue impact.
- Demonstrated experience designing, building, and deploying AI agents and agentic workflows that transformed real work — not just using AI, but building with it in production.
- Cross-functional leadership: proven ability to drive initiatives spanning Marketing, Sales, Customer Success, and Engineering without direct authority over those teams.
- Hands-on with AI APIs and agent frameworks (OpenAI, Anthropic/Claude, Gemini, LangChain, CrewAI, RAG, MCP) and with the systems GTM teams actually run on (Salesforce, Marketo, Snowflake, Clay, Zapier).
- Strong builder fundamentals: comfortable with SQL, scripting (Python or JavaScript), API integrations, webhook design, and prompt engineering. You can debug a Clay table or a Marketo webhook integration without escalating.
- Experience building evaluation frameworks for AI systems — prompt evals, output quality scoring, agent benchmarking, regression testing.
- Hypothesis-driven operator who runs structured pilots with clear success criteria and is willing to reach — and defend — politically inconvenient conclusions.
- Exceptional communicator who can translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences and represent the function in front of executive stakeholders.
- Track record of enabling others to permanently change how they work; bias toward stepping-stone adoption over mandate-to-automation.
- Demonstrated Clay experience and fluency with modern martech stacks (automation tools, CDPs, CRMs, data warehouses).
