Why This Job is Featured on The SaaS Jobs
This Principal Application Development Engineer role stands out in SaaS because it sits at the infrastructure layer where product reliability and performance are ultimately won or lost. Working on DataSynapse GridServer, a core distributed computing platform, places the focus on high availability, fault tolerance, and throughput, with clear ties to hybrid cloud adoption and container orchestration that many SaaS platforms rely on as they mature.
From a career standpoint, the work builds durable SaaS engineering capital: designing distributed services, making architectural tradeoffs under latency and scale constraints, and modernizing legacy or specialized workloads into cloud native patterns. The remit also includes setting engineering standards and influencing how teams ship and operate critical systems, experience that transfers well to platform engineering, SRE adjacent leadership, and principal level roles across SaaS organizations.
This position is best suited to senior engineers who prefer hands-on ownership of complex systems and enjoy deep performance investigation as much as design. It will fit professionals motivated by cross-functional technical leadership, including partnering with DevOps, security, and infrastructure stakeholders, and those who want their impact measured in stability, efficiency, and predictable execution at scale.

Job Description
Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and visionary Principal Application Development Engineer to join our Core GridServer Infrastructure team. DataSynapse GridServer is the backbone of our high-performance computing (HPC) environment, driving massive parallel processing, distributed resource management, and critical enterprise analytics.
In this role, you will be a hands-on technical leader responsible for architecting, scaling, and modernizing our GridServer infrastructure. You will design next-generation distributed applications, optimize low-latency throughput, and lead the migration/integration of grid workloads into hybrid cloud environments.
Key Responsibilities
Architecture & Technical Leadership
System Design: Lead the architectural evolution of the GridServer platform to ensure high availability, fault tolerance, and seamless horizontal scaling.
Cloud Modernization: Drive strategies to integrate traditional GridServer workloads with modern cloud-native topologies (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and container orchestration platforms (Kubernetes).
Best Practices: Establish, promote, and enforce rigorous engineering standards, code reviews, and design patterns across the development lifecycle.
Application Development & Optimization
Core Development: Design and develop highly concurrent, distributed services, APIs, and middleware interfaces utilizing Java, C++, or C#.
Performance Tuning: Diagnose and resolve complex bottlenecks related to network latency, memory management, CPU utilization, and distributed data serialization.
Dynamic Scheduling: Optimize GridServer engine allocation policies, broker mechanics, and workload scheduling algorithms to maximize cluster utilization.
Collaboration & Mentorship
Cross-Functional Alignment: Partner with DevOps, Infrastructure, Security, and internal business units to translate complex business requirements into scalable grid solutions.
Mentorship: Guide and mentor senior and mid-level engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning.
Qualifications & Skills
Required Technical Expertise
Distributed Systems: 12+ years of experience designing and maintaining large-scale distributed architectures, enterprise grid computing, or clustering technologies.
Grid Middleware: Direct, deep technical experience with DataSynapse GridServer (TIBCO GridServer) architecture, including custom Driver/Broker/Engine configurations and scheduling policies.
Programming Languages: Expert-level proficiency in Java and/or C++, with a strong command of multi-threading, concurrency models, and low-level memory management.
Operating Systems & Networking: Deep understanding of Linux/Unix internals, TCP/IP networking, socket programming, and high-performance storage systems.
Preferred Experience
Cloud & Containers: Proven experience containerizing grid workloads using Docker and managing them via Kubernetes (EKS/AKS).
Industry Context: Background in financial services (specifically quantitative risk, derivatives pricing, or high-frequency trading platforms) where high-performance grid computing is critical.
CI/CD & Automation: Experience with modern DevOps toolchains (Jenkins, GitLab CI, Ansible, Terraform).
Soft Skills
Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities dealing with abstract, systemic issues.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to both executive stakeholders and engineering teams.
