Why This Job is Featured on The SaaS Jobs
Modern SaaS security platforms increasingly compete on data foundation as much as on UI and features, and this role sits directly in that layer. SentinelOne describes an AI native security product that ingests massive volumes of telemetry, making big data engineering a core product capability rather than a back office function. The focus on research and detection also signals work that supports differentiated product outcomes, where pipeline design choices influence what threats can be found and how quickly.
For a SaaS career, the value is in building durable skills around operating data systems at scale in a cloud context. Experience with reliability, performance, observability, and governance maps closely to how subscription platforms earn trust over time. Working alongside data scientists, security researchers, and product partners also builds fluency in cross functional delivery, a common requirement as SaaS teams align platform engineering with customer facing roadmap work.
This role tends to suit engineers who like turning ambiguous analytical needs into production grade systems and who are comfortable owning operational quality, not just initial builds. It is a strong match for someone who wants deep technical scope in distributed systems while staying close to product impact within a SaaS environment.
The section above is editorial commentary from The SaaS Jobs, provided to help SaaS professionals understand the role in a broader industry context.
Job Description
Our Purpose
At SentinelOne, we are driven by a clear purpose: to give the advantage to those who secure our future. As AI reshapes how organizations build, operate, and innovate, the responsibility to protect them becomes more critical than ever. When you join SentinelOne, your work helps protect global enterprises, critical infrastructure, and the technologies shaping tomorrow. If you are motivated by meaningful challenges and want your impact to be real, measurable, and global, you will find purpose here.
About Us
SentinelOne is a company at the intersection of AI and security, pioneering a new operating model for cybersecurity. Our AI-native platform unifies protection across endpoint, cloud, identity, data, and AI systems to deliver autonomous detection and response with clarity and speed. By combining real-time analytics, intelligent automation, and a unified data foundation, we reduce noise, simplify complexity, and empower security teams to focus on what truly matters.
Our teams are builders, problem-solvers, and innovators committed to shaping the future of security. If you are excited to solve hard problems alongside talented, mission-driven people, we invite you to help us build a safer future for humanity.
What Are We Looking For?
We’re looking for people who are relentlessly curious and committed to continuous learning. AI is reshaping every function across our business, and we enable every team member, regardless of role or level, to build fluency in AI tools and concepts. Those who thrive here actively seek out new solutions, experiment thoughtfully, and apply what they learn to drive better, faster, smarter outcomes.
As a Senior Data Engineer, you will play a vital role in designing, building, and maintaining the data infrastructure that powers our cyber threat detection research (core and critical part of our product). This infrastructure will enable data scientists and security researchers to make sense of petabytes of data and uncover the threats that matter. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams across the company - data scientists, security researchers, product managers, and engineers - to deliver innovative data solutions that help us build best-in-class threat detection and protect our customers.
What will you do?
Primary responsibilities include:
- Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines that process petabytes of security data (we ingest 5-10 petabytes daily) for research purposes.
- Develop production-grade pipelines, applying software engineering best practices.
- Operate big data infrastructure and cloud data warehouses with a focus on reliability and performance.
- Partner with data scientists and security researchers to deliver impactful data solutions.
- Ensure data quality, observability, and governance across the platform.
What Skills and Knowledge Will You Bring?
Ideal candidates will have:
- 4+ years of experience in data engineering, data architecture, and distributed systems
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python (that we use), Java, Scala, or similar.
- Experience with cloud-based technologies such as AWS (our primary), GCP or Azure.
- Experience with deploying big data technologies such as Apache Spark, Hadoop, Hive, IceBerg, Trino.
- Familiarity with data warehousing concepts and technologies.
- Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau, PowerBI, Grafana or similar.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop innovative solutions to complex problems.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly present and explain complex data and models to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- BS or higher degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or related field. Additional or directly relevant experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Experience in leading cross-functional projects between R&D and product teams.
Why SentinelOne?
