About Rocketlane
Rocketlane is building world-class software for customer onboarding, professional services, and modern service delivery teams.
We care deeply about product craft. Our engineers work closely with Product and Design to solve complex problems, build delightful user experiences, and create systems that remain fast and reliable as we scale.
If you enjoy owning a problem end-to-end — from the database and APIs all the way to the interactions a customer sees in the browser — this role is for you.
What will you do?
As a Lead Full Stack Engineer, you will own meaningful parts of the Rocketlane product from design through production.
You will:
Design and build features end-to-end across our React frontend and Java backend.
Work closely with Product and Design to turn customer problems into simple, thoughtful product experiences.
Build polished, performant user experiences for complex SaaS workflows.
Design clean APIs, data models, and backend services that can scale as our customers and usage grow.
Solve challenging product problems involving real-time collaboration, rich interactive experiences, workflow automation, large datasets, and highly configurable enterprise use cases.
Make thoughtful architectural decisions across frontend, backend, database, caching, and asynchronous processing.
Own the performance and reliability of what you build — from browser performance through API latency and database queries.
Debug complex issues across the entire stack rather than stopping at service boundaries.
Write maintainable, well-tested code and raise the quality bar through thoughtful code reviews.
Identify technical debt and proactively improve architecture, developer experience, observability, and engineering productivity.
Mentor engineers and help the team make better technical decisions.
Take ownership of features in production and work with the team to diagnose and resolve issues quickly.
Participate actively in engineering design discussions and influence how Rocketlane's technology evolves.
You should apply if
Frontend
You are comfortable with:
React and modern JavaScript/TypeScript
SPA architecture and component design
HTML and CSS
State management and complex client-side application flows
Browser fundamentals such as caching, storage, networking, and rendering
Building reusable components and maintainable frontend architecture
Frontend performance profiling and optimization
Building responsive and high-quality product experiences
Experience with real-time applications, WebSockets, large data-heavy interfaces, rich editors, or spreadsheet-like experiences is a plus.
Backend
You have strong fundamentals in:
Java and Spring or similar backend frameworks
HTTP and REST API design
PostgreSQL or other relational databases
Data modelling and query performance
Redis and caching
Asynchronous processing and message brokers
Designing scalable and resilient backend services
Performance optimization
Debugging and root-cause analysis
Logging, monitoring, and production troubleshooting
Engineering fundamentals
Beyond knowing frameworks, we expect you to understand why systems behave the way they do.
You should be comfortable discussing topics such as:
API and system design
Database transactions and concurrency
Caching strategies
Distributed systems fundamentals
Failure handling and resiliency
Performance and scalability
Security and authorization
Testing strategy
Production observability
Clean code and maintainable architecture
What we're really looking for
We're not looking for someone who is 50% frontend and 50% backend but shallow in both.
We're looking for an engineer who has strong depth in at least one part of the stack, solid engineering fundamentals across the other, and the ability to independently take a customer problem from:
Problem → Design → Architecture → Backend → Frontend → Production
You should be someone who asks:
“What is the right solution for the customer and the product?”
rather than:
“Is this a frontend problem or a backend problem?”
You'll thrive here if
You enjoy owning problems rather than just completing tickets.
You care about both how a product works and how it feels to use.
You can move quickly without compromising engineering fundamentals.
You are comfortable working through ambiguity and breaking large problems into smaller ones.
You enjoy collaborating directly with Product and Design.
You are willing to dive into unfamiliar parts of the stack when the problem requires it.
You care about performance, reliability, and maintainability — not just getting something to work.
You enjoy mentoring other engineers while remaining deeply hands-on.
You like learning, experimenting, and continuously improving the way software is built.
Nice to have
Experience building B2B SaaS products
Experience in a startup or high-growth product company
AWS experience
Docker/containerization experience
Experience with CI/CD pipelines
Experience building real-time collaborative applications
Experience with WebSockets
Experience working with high-volume APIs or large datasets
Experience with Playwright, Cypress, or similar automation frameworks
Experience designing enterprise-grade integrations
Exposure to AI-assisted product development or AI-powered product experiences
Why Rocketlane?
Build challenging product experiences
You'll work on problems that go well beyond basic CRUD applications — collaborative workflows, highly interactive interfaces, automation, data-heavy experiences, enterprise integrations, and increasingly AI-powered experiences.
Own meaningful parts of the product
Engineers at Rocketlane are expected to understand the problem, contribute to the solution, build it, ship it, and learn from how customers use it.
Work across boundaries
You won't be constrained by artificial frontend/backend boundaries. If solving the problem requires changing the UI, API, data model, cache, or infrastructure, you'll have the opportunity to work across all of them.
Raise your engineering bar
You'll work alongside engineers, designers, and product leaders who care deeply about building a world-class SaaS product.
And most importantly, you'll have the opportunity to look at something customers use every day and say:
“I built that.”
