About the Team
OpenAI, in close collaboration with our partners, is building the world’s most advanced AI infrastructure ecosystem. The Stargate team is at the core of this mission, driving the infrastructure strategy and making it real—from site selection to commissioning and handover. We operate at the intersection of technical execution, operational excellence, and on-the-ground problem-solving, working with internal teams and external partners across the globe.
About the Role
We are seeking a Site Engineer who thrives in the fast-paced, hands-on environment of world-class data center delivery. This role blends technical solution design, on-site problem solving, and network troubleshooting to ensure projects transition smoothly from build to fully operational status.
You’ll spend more than 50% of your time on site, working directly with contractors, commissioning agents, and internal engineering teams to identify and resolve issues in real time. From commissioning script reviews to hands-on network troubleshooting, you’ll bridge the gap between high-level design intent and the reality of physical infrastructure handover.
This is a role for someone who can adapt quickly, collaborate deeply, and move seamlessly between engineering analysis, technical problem solving, and direct field execution.
In this role, you will:
Lead on-site technical problem solving during construction, commissioning, and handover phases, quickly diagnosing and resolving issues.
Provide practical engineering solutions to field issues while maintaining alignment with the overall technical roadmap.
Perform network systems troubleshooting on-site in coordination with internal networking teams and external vendors.
Work with commissioning teams to validate performance, troubleshoot failures, and ensure systems meet design specifications.
Partner with internal stakeholders to confirm requirements are met and with contractors to address RFIs and field changes.
Review and interpret construction and commissioning documentation, identifying gaps and ensuring as-built accuracy.
Coordinate with design teams to feed back field learnings into the technical standards and reference designs.
Ensure all site work meets safety, quality, and operational standards.
You might thrive in this role if you:
Have a BS in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or similar) or equivalent experience.
Bring 5+ years of experience in mission-critical infrastructure delivery, with a focus on hands-on, field-based execution.
Are comfortable with both technical design discussions and boots-on-the-ground problem solving.
Possess working knowledge of data center networking concepts and troubleshooting methods.
Have deep familiarity with commissioning processes, testing protocols, and operational handover requirements.
Can interpret complex design and construction documents and translate them into actionable field work.
Thrive in dynamic environments and can pivot quickly when priorities shift.
Communicate effectively across engineering, construction, and operations teams, influencing decisions with clear, concise reasoning.
Role requires frequent/heavy travel
