Algolia was built to help users deliver an intuitive search-as-you-type experience on their websites and mobile apps. We provide a search API used by thousands of customers in more than 100 countries. Billions of search queries are answered every month thanks to the code we push into production every day.
The Team
The Events team owns Algolia’s customer-facing Events API, which lets users send key events into the Algolia system. These events power analytics, personalization, and other features that drive real business impact for our customers. We are continuing to expand and improve this existing system, meaning you’ll be instrumental in quickly onboarding to a mature codebase, learning it quickly, and helping shape its future.
The role will consist of:
As a Full Stack Software Engineer, you’ll work across backend and frontend code to build reliable event capture, processing, and integration flows. While most of the role focuses on backend engineering in Go, you’ll also be responsible for improving and maintaining our Rails and React based frontend and our connectors to third party tools such as Segment and Google Analytics.
You’ll:
- Take ownership of an existing product, rapidly learning its architecture and improving its reliability.
- Build, maintain, and evolve backend services in Go on GCP and Kubernetes, as well as our frontend Rails and React applications.
- Write clean, testable, and scalable code that balances speed and quality.
- Partner with product managers and other engineers to deliver features that enable customers to send events to Algolia easily.
- Investigate and debug production issues to ensure high uptime for a critical API.
This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys digging into existing systems, quickly building context, and then driving improvements that scale.
You might be a fit if you have:
Must-haves
- Around 4+ years of software engineering experience, ideally across backend and frontend systems.
- Experience in Go, with comfort working in cloud-native environments (GCP, Kubernetes).
- Ability to quickly understand and onboard onto existing codebases.
- Some familiarity with frontend frameworks (React, Rails, or similar).
- Strong collaboration and problem-solving skills in cross-functional teams.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience integrating with Google Tag Manager, Google Analytics, Segment, or similar tracking/analytics tools.
- Prior exposure to event-driven systems or data pipelines.
- Knowledge of observability, monitoring, or performance optimization in production systems.
We’re looking for someone who can live our values:
- GRIT – Problem-solving and perseverance capability in an ever-changing and growing environment
- TRUST – Willingness to trust our co-workers and to take ownership
- CANDOR – Ability to receive and give constructive feedback
- CARE – Genuine care about other team members, our clients and the decisions we make in the company
- HUMILITY – Aptitude for learning from others, putting ego aside
