About hyperexponential (hx)
At hyperexponential, we’re building the AI-powered platform that enables the world’s most critical decisions in a $7 trillion industry: which risks to take, and how to price them. These are the decisions that shape real-world outcomes: whether rockets successfully launch into space, autonomous vehicles make it to market, or communities recover after major storms.
Until now, insurance has been making billion-dollar decisions using outdated tools. We’re changing that. Our platform brings together data, AI, and human expertise to give insurers the fastest path from submission to decision. We help them move faster, act smarter, and take on more risk with confidence.
Backed by a16z, Highland Europe, and Battery Ventures, we’re scaling globally. We are already trusted by nearly 50 of the world’s largest insurers, with zero churn and billions in premiums flowing through hx.
What began as a single product in one market has rapidly evolved into a multi-product, multi-territory platform powering every stage of pricing and underwriting. AI is at the core of what we do, from building the world’s first domain-specific AI peer programmer for insurance (think GitHub Copilot with a PhD in actuarial science) to shaping agentic workflows that reinvent how this industry operates.
What makes hx different is the people who build it. Here, impact isn’t tied to title or tenure. It’s defined by the challenges you take on and the discipline you bring. Surrounded by peers who stretch you, you’ll do the best, hardest work of your life in a company built to endure.
If that sounds like you, join us in building what comes next.
About the role
The Model Development team operates at the intersection of actuarial science and technology, enabling customers to unlock the full potential of hx Renew. We are the technical backbone of implementation, blending deep insurance expertise with advanced coding to deliver transformations that inspire customer confidence and measurable business value.
Within the team, Senior Model Developers are our technical leaders: actuarial specialists with a developer mindset who coach, guide, and ensure delivery excellence. They are also people leaders, embedding innovation in delivery and shaping the culture of the team as we expand globally.
This role is a founding position in our US Model Development team. You’ll build the strategy, culture, and processes that set the tone for our US expansion, while working closely with Sales, Customer Leadership, and Professional Services to deliver exceptional implementations.
What you’ll be doing
Establish and scale the US Model Development team, defining its culture, strategy, and delivery model to accelerate hx’s regional expansion.
Partner with Sales to scope, design, and present transformation projects that increase win rates and long-term customer retention.
Lead end-to-end hx Renew implementations, ensuring delivery excellence that drives measurable improvements in pricing accuracy and operational efficiency.
Apply a data-driven approach to prioritize project work, aligning delivery resources with areas of maximum customer ROI.
Coach and mentor new team members and partner developers, building a high-performance culture that sustains growth.
Develop reusable tools, frameworks, and processes that improve project speed, predictability, and quality while embedding innovation into delivery.
What you’ll need to have done
Delivered actuarial or pricing models in a P&C insurance or consulting context, ideally progressing toward CAS or IFoA qualifications.
Built or scaled teams, demonstrating leadership in setting culture and coaching technical talent.
Shipped production-grade Python solutions, applying modern development practices within an actuarial or insurance context.
Successfully led customer-facing projects, engaging with senior stakeholders (including C-suite) on both technical and commercial outcomes.
Operated in professional services, insurtech, or fintech environments where implementation excellence was central to customer success.
Demonstrated curiosity, experimentation, and ownership, balancing innovation in delivery with commercial impact.
You’re unlikely to thrive here if
You prefer to specialize narrowly in actuarial or coding roles and are not motivated by blending both disciplines.
You avoid ambiguity and don’t want to build something from the ground up.
You’re uncomfortable working directly with enterprise customers or in the fast-paced expectations of professional services.
If reading our Culture Document leaves you feeling neutral rather than energised, hx may not be the place where you’ll do your best work. We’re building something that asks for commitment and conviction, and we want you to feel excited by the opportunity to grow with us.
