Why This Job is Featured on The SaaS Jobs
Harvey sits in the emerging class of SaaS platforms embedding generative AI into regulated, high-stakes workflows. The Document Processing domain is a foundational layer in that kind of product: it turns unstructured customer data into reliable inputs for retrieval and reasoning, and it must perform consistently under enterprise usage patterns. For SaaS professionals, this signals work that is close to core platform capability rather than peripheral feature delivery.
From a career standpoint, leading document ingestion, OCR, search, and vector storage systems builds durable SaaS engineering management experience. These are recurring problems across modern SaaS—data pipelines, latency and cost control, quality measurement, and productionizing ML-adjacent components—where the constraints are set by customer trust and operational reliability. The role also naturally reinforces cross-functional leadership, given the dependency between product expectations, infrastructure limits, and applied AI behavior.
This position tends to suit an engineering manager who stays close to architecture and is comfortable being hands-on when needed. It aligns with professionals who enjoy translating ambiguous platform requirements into roadmaps, and who prefer working on systems that underpin multiple product surfaces rather than a single application area.

Role Overview
Harvey is building the future of legal work, and we’re looking for an Engineering Manager to help lead the charge. Our Document Processing team sits at the core of our platform—enabling our AI systems to make sense of massive troves of legal documents. From OCR to vector storage, our systems must be fast, accurate, and scalable to meet the demands of the top law firms in the world.
You’ll lead a team of exceptional engineers to extend our capabilities, push the boundaries of what’s possible in document understanding, and ensure our infrastructure scales with our users.
We move with urgency, bias toward simplicity, and expect our leaders to be hands-on when needed. If you’re energized by ownership, decisive execution, and solving real user problems, we'd love to hear from you.
What You’ll Do
Lead and grow a team of world-class engineers working on document ingestion, understanding, and retrieval.
Define and execute a long-term technical roadmap for our document processing systems that aligns with Harvey’s product vision and the needs of our customers.
Collaborate closely with Product, Infrastructure, and Applied AI teams to design robust systems that bridge cutting-edge research and production readiness.
Stay hands-on: unblock engineers, participate in architecture reviews, and dive into code when needed.
Cultivate a culture of engineering excellence, thoughtful experimentation, and continuous improvement.
What You Have
2+ years of experience in a software engineering management role, leading teams operating in technically complex domains.
A track record of leading high-performing, engaged engineering teams.
A strong foundation in backend systems, with 5+ years of hands-on experience designing and operating distributed systems in a cloud environment.
Direct experience in architecting or scaling document ingestion and processing, search systems, or data infrastructure (e.g. OCR pipelines, Elasticsearch, vector databases).
Compensation Range
$250,000 - 300,000 USD
