Why This Job is Featured on The SaaS Jobs
This frontend-focused engineering role sits at a distinctly SaaS-relevant intersection: security products delivered as software, with AI capabilities increasingly embedded into the user experience. With the team positioned as a lean product engineering group tied to security research, the work reflects a common pattern in modern SaaS—turning advanced technical capability into a reliable, usable product surface that customers can adopt quickly.
From a career perspective, the role builds durable SaaS experience across product delivery, not just feature implementation. It emphasizes translating real workflows into UI systems, shaping frontend architecture, and operating within cloud-based deployment environments. Exposure to building from early foundations—where infrastructure and patterns are still being established—can strengthen judgment around scalability, maintainability, and iteration cycles that recur across SaaS companies.
This is best suited to an engineer who prefers broad scope and ownership, and who enjoys collaborating across domains (product engineering, security, and research) to make complex functionality accessible. It aligns well with someone comfortable with ambiguity and motivated by building production-grade web applications where reliability and trust are central to the product.
The section above is editorial commentary from The SaaS Jobs, provided to help SaaS professionals understand the role in a broader industry context.
Job Description
About the Team
Security Products is on a mission to transform cybersecurity by leveraging AI to give defenders a decisive advantage.
Born out of OpenAI’s security research program and incubated with Sam Altman’s encouragement, the Security Products team is taking the breakthroughs we’ve developed internally and bringing them to the world. Our tools are already protecting OpenAI’s own systems, and we’re looking to scale their impact to the world.
We are a lean, high-caliber team operating at the frontier of AI and security. We blend security research with product engineering to explore what’s possible, build what’s practical, and give defenders an unprecedented advantage – all while advancing the science of AI-driven security itself.
About the Role
As a Full-Stack Software Engineer on this team, you’ll help invent and build the next generation of AI-powered cybersecurity products. You’ll work across the stack—designing user-facing features, building backend systems, integrating new AI capabilities, and ensuring our products are robust, reliable, and impactful.
This is a fast-moving, high-ownership role. You’ll collaborate closely with security experts, AI researchers, and product engineers, shaping both the technical foundation and the product direction of a team that is scaling quickly. You don’t need to be a security engineer to succeed here – just someone excited to solve meaningful problems and build tools that materially improve defenders’ capabilities.
What you’ll do:
Build, deploy, and maintain applications and systems that bring advanced AI-driven security capabilities to real users.
Work directly with internal and external customers to deeply understand their workflows and translate them into intuitive, powerful product experiences.
Design and build efficient and reusable frontend systems that drive complex web applications.
Plan and deploy frontend infrastructure necessary to build, test, and deploy our products.
Collaborate across OpenAI’s product, research, engineering, and security organizations to maximize impact.
Help shape the engineering culture, architecture, and processes of a new business unit with a critical mission.
What we’re looking for:
3+ years of relevant engineering experience at technology and product-driven companies.
Experience building production web applications at scale using TypeScript, React and other web technologies.
Familiarity with public cloud environments (Azure or AWS) and infrastructure tooling (Kubernetes, Terraform, etc.).
Are comfortable building complex applications and systems from the ground up, with limited development infrastructure available to you.
Are intrinsically driven to learn and fill in missing skills.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment where problems may be ambiguous, emerging, or rapidly evolving.
