Why This Job is Featured on The SaaS Jobs
This People Systems Engineer role sits at a distinctive intersection in SaaS: internal product building for the employee lifecycle. Rather than shipping customer-facing features, the work applies SaaS platform capabilities like automations, interfaces, scripting, and native AI to operational systems that underpin how a subscription software company runs day to day. The remit spans core People workflows, making it a clear example of how modern SaaS companies increasingly treat internal tooling as a product discipline.
For a long-term SaaS career, the value is in developing repeatable strengths that transfer across scale-ups and larger platforms alike: systems design, data modeling, API-led integration, and governance-minded architecture. The role also reflects a broader SaaS trend toward consolidating fragmented HR tech stacks through pragmatic platform decisions, giving exposure to evaluation tradeoffs between “build in a platform” versus “buy a specialist tool,” and to the operational realities of maintaining reliability and data quality.
This position best suits someone who prefers ownership of end-to-end solutions and enjoys translating stakeholder needs into maintainable systems. It aligns with professionals who like hands-on technical work paired with documentation and enablement, and who are motivated by measurable improvements in internal efficiency rather than external feature velocity.

Job Description
The Airtable People team is seeking a People Systems Engineer (Airtable Specialist) to design, build, and maintain the Airtable apps that power the employee experience.
You’ll own and evolve the People team’s most critical tools — including our performance management system, onboarding app, and people directory — and develop new Airtable-based solutions that put AI and automation at the center of their design. Your work will simplify workflows, improve data visibility, and help the People team operate more intelligently and efficiently.
While Airtable will be your primary platform, you’ll also evaluate when other systems or tools may better serve a problem, taking a pragmatic, outcomes-first approach to how we build the People tech stack.
Sitting on the People team and partnering closely with IT and internal systems, you’ll use Airtable, scripting, and platform-native AI capabilities to deliver intuitive, scalable, and high-impact tools that touch every Airtable employee.
What you'll do
Airtable Development & System Design
- Build, enhance, and maintain core People Airtable apps that support all aspects of the employee lifecycle, such as performance, onboarding, and employee data management.
- Design and architect new Airtable applications with AI and automation at the core, ensuring systems are intelligent, scalable, and adaptable as the company grows.
- Use Airtable Interfaces, Automations, and Scripting to create clean, efficient, and data-rich user experiences.
Systems Evolution & Enablement
- Develop and maintain automations, integrations, and data flows between Airtable and tools like Greenhouse, Workday, Lattice, Slack, and Google Workspace.
- Take a pragmatic approach to problem-solving, evaluating and recommending alternative systems or tools when they better serve People team goals.
- Use scripting (JavaScript or Python) and APIs to connect systems and optimize recurring processes.
- Continuously monitor system performance, usability, and data accuracy, iterating to meet evolving business needs.
- Partner with IT and cross-functional teams to align on architecture, data governance, and long-term tooling roadmap
- Document technical logic and train stakeholders to use and maintain Airtable applications effectively. Promote Airtable best practices across the People team.
Who you are
You’re a systems-minded builder who designs with automation and intelligence in mind. You combine a product mindset with hands-on technical skill, and you’re motivated by creating AI-driven tools that make work simpler, smarter, and more human for every employee.
Qualifications
- 5+ years in systems engineering, internal tools development, or technical operations.
- Experienced in leveraging AI to enhance systems and workflows : you experiment, tinker, and have experience using generative AI to build real solutions
- Proven experience building advanced Airtable solutions using interfaces, automations, and scripting.
- Skilled in scripting (JavaScript or Python) and integrating SaaS tools via APIs.
- Pragmatic problem solver who evaluates the right system or tool for the job: Airtable-first, but not Airtable-only.
- Familiarity with HR or People systems (e.g., Workday, Greenhouse, Slack, Google Workspace) preferred but not required.
- Strong data modeling and systems design abilities.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
- A proactive, collaborative self-starter who thrives in fast-paced environments.
