Why This Job is Featured on The SaaS Jobs
Backend engineering roles focused on agents sit at the intersection of modern SaaS product delivery and applied AI. This position is anchored in an enterprise workspace platform where reliability, security boundaries, and integration with existing tools matter as much as model capability. The remit around the agentic chat loop signals work on core product infrastructure rather than peripheral experimentation, which is increasingly where SaaS differentiation is being built in AI-enabled categories.
For a SaaS career, the role offers durable experience in shipping production systems that blend application engineering with LLM-adjacent concerns like latency, scalability, and operational correctness. End-to-end ownership from design through deployment aligns with how many SaaS organisations run product engineering, and the stated stack spans common SaaS primitives such as Postgres and Kubernetes alongside TypeScript and Python. Collaboration with researchers and product counterparts also reflects a growing pattern in SaaS teams building AI features: translating ambiguous capabilities into maintainable, testable software.
This role suits engineers who prefer product-facing backend work with clear accountability for outcomes and quality. It will fit someone comfortable making pragmatic technical tradeoffs, documenting decisions, and working across disciplines to turn emerging AI behaviours into dependable platform features.

About North
North is Cohere’s cutting-edge AI workspace platform, designed to revolutionise how enterprises use AI. It offers a secure, customisable environment that enables companies to deploy AI while maintaining control over sensitive data. North integrates seamlessly with existing workflows, providing a trusted platform that connects AI agents with workplace tools and applications.
In this role, you will:
Design, build, ship and maintain scalable features for the agentic chat loop in North, ensuring seamless scalability and performance.
Take end-to-end ownership of features — from initial design and planning, through implementation, testing, and delivery.
Apply your expertise to deliver at speed, making practical technical decisions that balance velocity with depth and quality.
Collaborate closely across teams, maintaining high standards for communication, documentation, and testing.
You may be a good fit if you:
Have built, shipped & maintained production systems around LLMs.
Experience owning complex features from design to deployment, with a focus on scalability and maintainability.
Ability to work closely with researchers, engineers, and product teams to translate insights into actionable improvements.
Have strong coding abilities and are comfortable working across the stack.
Take a customer-focused, product-minded approach to building software, prioritising outcomes and impact.
Thrive in fast-paced environments and can stay focused as priorities and objectives evolve.
Our tech stack:
Our stack includes Python, TypeScript with React, Postgres, and is deployed on Kubernetes. We value strong fundamentals and a learning mindset over specific tech experience — if you’re excited about AI and love building fast, you’ll fit right in!
If some of the above doesn’t line up perfectly with your experience, we still encourage you to apply!
We value and celebrate diversity and strive to create an inclusive work environment for all. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and are committed to providing equal opportunities. Should you require any accommodations during the recruitment process, please submit an Accommodations Request Form, and we will work together to meet your needs.
