Director, Web Engineering

About the Role
Genesys is seeking a hands-on, strategic Director to lead our Global Web Engineering team—leading the platforms and engineering teams that power Genesys.com. We are looking for a technical leader who combines deep corporate web development expertise with enterprise-scale platform ownership and a passion for delivering high-performing, secure, globally scalable digital experiences.

What You’ll Do
Technical Architecture & Platform Leadership
Define and execute the technical vision and roadmap for the Genesys web stack, including AI-powered and API-driven capabilities
Own the enterprise WordPress architecture, including custom themes, plugins, Gutenberg blocks, third-party integrations, and reusable components
Lead modernization initiatives including WordPress core and PHP upgrades, refactoring, and technical debt reduction
Evaluate and implement headless or decoupled WordPress architectures where appropriate
Establish and enforce engineering standards for code quality, accessibility, performance, scalability, and maintainability
Infrastructure, Hosting & DevOps
Oversee hosting environments (cloud or enterprise WordPress hosts) and deployment pipelines
Define environment strategy (local, staging, production) and ensure reliable CI/CD workflows and release automation
Manage scaling strategies, caching layers (Redis, Memcached), CDN configuration, and uptime optimization
Ensure disaster recovery planning, automated backups, observability, and operational reliability
Security, Compliance & Governance
Own platform security posture, including vulnerability management, plugin governance, and incident response
Enforce secure coding standards and role-based access controls
Support audits, penetration testing, and compliance initiatives (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, accessibility standards)
Manage third-party plugins and integrations with strong security and privacy governance
Performance, SEO & Digital Quality
Drive improvements in page speed, Core Web Vitals, database optimization, and overall site performance
Establish strong technical SEO foundations (schema markup, site architecture, crawl health, metadata governance)
Lead UAT processes and test automation to ensure high-quality releases
Proactively monitor performance metrics and resolve issues before user impact
Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration
Lead, mentor, and grow a global team of front-end and full-stack engineers, QA professionals, and web publishers
Partner closely with UX, content, marketing, analytics, IT, security, and digital growth teams
Enable personalization, experimentation, and scalable design system adoption
Manage agencies, contractors, hosting vendors, and platform partners
Translate complex technical tradeoffs into clear guidance for executive stakeholders
What You Bring
Required
12+ years of professional web development experience, 5+ leading teams
10+ years of deep, hands-on WordPress development experience (custom themes, plugins, enterprise implementations)
Strong expertise in PHP, JavaScript, HTML5, CSS, APIs, and modern web architectures
Experience leading enterprise-scale, high-traffic WordPress platforms
Strong knowledge of hosting environments, DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and release automation
Demonstrated expertise in performance optimization, caching strategies, CDNs, and Core Web Vitals
Experience implementing technical SEO and accessibility (WCAG/ADA) best practices
Proven experience leading global or distributed engineering teams
Preferred
Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) or enterprise WordPress hosts (WP Engine, Pantheon, Kinsta)
Experience with containerization (Docker) or infrastructure-as-code
Background in B2B, SaaS, or complex enterprise digital environments
Compensation:
This role has a market-competitive salary with an anticipated base compensation range listed below. Actual salaries will vary depending on a candidate’s experience, qualifications, skills, and location. This role might also be eligible for a commission or performance-based bonus opportunities.
$164,900.00 - $290,100.00
