Company Description
Headquartered in London, UK, RedOptima develops technology to solve one of the automotive industry’s most complex research and engineering challenges. Our market-leading collision risk analytics quantify the environmental and physical factors influencing collisions.
Harnessing Machine Learning and Big Data technologies allows us to combine data streams from remote sensors to provide industry-leading collision risk probability benchmarks. We focus on the explainability of road vehicle collisions, both historically and those that may happen in the future, allowing us to quantify the root causes of collisions.
RedOptima’s technology is deployed by Road and Traffic Authorities and Automotive Insurers to provide unparalleled analytics. We are a close-knit, high-performing team, and we are looking for a Founding Engineer in Bangalore to help us build the systems that will define the future.
Location: Bangalore, India
Department: Engineering
Job Description
As a Founding Engineer at RedOptima's Bangalore hub, you will step into a highly dynamic, entrepreneurial role where you must be ready to wear many hats and adapt to the evolving needs of the business. From architecting robust data pipelines and deploying advanced machine learning models to troubleshooting unforeseen system issues, you will navigate ambiguity to tackle whatever challenges arise.
We are looking for a true builder and a strategic problem solver to take on this challenge. You should have a deep foundation in both software architecture and applied machine learning, thriving in innovative and high-autonomy environments where you make critical technical decisions. You are as comfortable discussing statistical probability models as you are architecting scalable Python applications.
RedOptima takes data from diverse data sources, transforming unstructured data into structured formats through physical analysis, statistical analysis, and ML modeling. This structured data is then used in further modelling and analytics. This creates a layer architecture that must be designed so that risk factors can be explained back to the underlying data.
In this highly impactful role, your core mission is to design, build, and maintain the systems that power our market-leading collision risk analytics. Operating at the intersection of architecture and data science, you will own the entire lifecycle of our ML solutions from early prototypes to production deployments. You will maximize the insight extracted from massive geospatial datasets and proactively mitigate technical risks as we scale, ultimately building mission-critical infrastructure that directly influences global road safety.
Your team:
You will be the cornerstone in a small but highly dedicated team of engineers. As a Founding Engineer, you will not only build systems but also help define our engineering culture, providing technical mentorship to developers and partnering with stakeholders to steer the product roadmap.
You will coordinate with a global team mostly based in London. Co-located at RedOptima Bangalore Hub is BlueOptima, our sister company, which we use to provide support and chances to upskill on technologies. This ensures we have support and a wider team.
Responsibilities include:
Engineering & Architecture:
- Own the entire lifecycle of engineering and machine learning solutions, from prototype to deployment, either on native Kubernetes or AWS.
- Architect, build, and maintain highly optimized, robust, and scalable systems.
- Design systems and processes to ensure that the highest data quality is met by our production solution.
- Proactively identify future technical risks, creating clear plans to navigate these.
Data Science & Machine Learning:
- Discover novel opportunities to extract actionable insights and automate workflows using diverse data sources.
- Champion a data-driven approach to validate assumptions, track progress, and performance metrics on implemented changes.
- Apply deep expertise in statistics and ML to validate and extract insights from the raw data before transforming it into actionable metrics.
Product & Technical Leadership:
- Provide hands-on leadership to developers, instilling best practices in system design, code quality, and solution ownership.
- Act as the technical bridge, effectively translating complex ML and engineering concepts to clients, client-facing teams, and non-experts.
- Drive product strategy, acting as the filter for new ideas and analyzing client problems to determine their value.
- Embrace the dynamic nature of a fast-evolving, agile business by wearing multiple hats, demonstrating flexibility, and stepping in to tackle unforeseen engineering challenges as the business evolves.
Qualifications
- Minimum Bachelor's degree in Computer Science/Statistics/Mathematics or equivalent.
- Minimum of 5+ years of experience in developing solutions with at least 3+ years using Machine learning Algorithms in industry.
- A proven track record of owning solutions from initial prototype through to product integration and monitoring.
- Deep understanding of statistical analysis and ML techniques, with the intuition to match the right algorithms to specific business problems.
- Experience in analysing and modeling over structured and unstructured datasets.
- Proficiency in Python, capable of both building robust, scalable applications and rapidly prototyping data models.
- Rigorous background in applied statistics and probability, essential for developing the explainable core of our collision risk analytics.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal and time management skills.
DESIRABLE SKILLS / EXPERIENCE:
- Experience handling Geographical Information Systems (GIS) data (using e.g., PostGIS, QGIS, ArcGIS, geopandas).
- Familiarity with cloud cost optimization and AWS management.
- Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, PostgreSQL, & Redis in production environments.
- A commercial mindset with experience managing project budgets, resource allocation, and designing processes that deliver successful business outcomes.
- A strong track record of automating operational tasks to maximize engineering time for high-value, complex problems.
