Why This Job is Featured on The SaaS Jobs
This Plant Controller role stands out because it applies SaaS-style financial rigor to a product-led, venture-backed business that is scaling operationally. While the company is not a pure software provider, the mandate resembles what many SaaS professionals encounter when recurring-revenue businesses add complex delivery layers: tighter controls, clearer unit economics, and decision support that connects executive priorities to on-the-ground execution.
For a career built in SaaS, the transferable value sits in owning a full performance cadence and translating it into action. Monthly close discipline, variance narratives, forecasting, and audit readiness mirror the operating rhythm of subscription businesses, even when the cost base is more operational. The emphasis on building reporting and models from scratch also maps to the kind of finance work common in scaling SaaS environments where systems and processes are still being formalised.
The role is best suited to a finance professional who prefers embedded partnership over back-office distance, and who can balance independence with alignment in a matrixed structure. It will appeal to someone motivated by operational detail, comfortable presenting to senior stakeholders, and interested in sharpening how financial insight influences day-to-day decisions.

Job Description
About Standard Bots
Standard Bots is building the next generation of industrial robots -- hardware that's powerful, affordable, and designed to scale. We closed a Series C and we're scaling fast, and building the financial infrastructure to match that growth is critical. This role is central to that.
Note: This is a full-time, on-site role at our Glen Cove, NY manufacturing facility
The Role
We're looking for a Plant Controller to serve as the senior finance partner embedded at our manufacturing facility -- owning the plant's financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and cost accounting, and working side-by-side with Operations leadership to ensure financial discipline is built into every operational decision.
This role reports formally to the Senior Finance Manager, with a dotted-line relationship to the Plant Manager. That structure is intentional -- it preserves independent financial oversight while ensuring close day-to-day partnership with the people running the plant.
What You'll Do
Financial Reporting & Close
- Own the plant's full financial reporting: monthly close, variance analysis, and management reporting on plant performance
- Serve as the primary finance point of contact for the plant during external audits (RSM), providing supporting schedules and documentation
- Maintain internal controls at the plant level and flag risks or process gaps to corporate Finance
- Present financial results, forecasts, and cost analyses clearly and confidently to senior leadership -- translating plant-level detail into business-level insight
Budgeting & Forecasting
- Lead budgeting and forecasting for the facility, partnering with the Plant Manager on labor, materials, overhead, and capital planning
- Evaluate capital expenditure requests and provide financial analysis to support operational decision-making -- new equipment, additional shifts, headcount, and more
Cost Accounting & Inventory
- Oversee cost accounting for the plant: standard costs, BOM cost accuracy, landed cost methodology, and labor allocation (direct vs. indirect)
- Analyze manufacturing cost variances (material, labor, overhead) and partner with Operations to identify root causes and corrective actions
- Own inventory valuation, cycle counts, and obsolescence reserve analysis for the facility, ensuring GAAP compliance and audit readiness
Cross-Functional Partnership
- Partner with Procurement on vendor cost analysis, tariff/duty impact, and supply chain cost trends
- Provide financial training and guidance to plant operations staff on cost drivers and the financial impact of operational decisions
- Build a trusted, credible relationship with the Plant Manager and Operations team -- you're their finance partner, not a corporate auditor
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA or CMA preferred
- 5+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience, with at least 2 years in a manufacturing or plant finance role
- Strong understanding of GAAP, cost accounting, and inventory valuation
- Experience partnering directly with plant and operations leadership in a dotted-line or matrixed reporting structure
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems -- NetSuite or similar a plus
- Advanced Excel skills; comfortable building financial models and forecasts from scratch
- Strong presentation and communication skills -- you can walk a Plant Manager through a variance analysis and present the same material to a CFO
- Comfortable working independently on-site while maintaining strong alignment with corporate Finance
Nice to Have
- Experience with international supply chains, tariffs, and customs/duty considerations
- CPA or CMA credential
- Background in a high-growth, venture-backed manufacturing or hardware company
- Familiarity with standard costing in a multi-SKU, complex BOM environment
Compensation and Benefits
The salary range for this role is $150,000 to $170,000. We are open to a variety of seniority levels for this role and will build compensation packages that are commensurate with seniority and skill level. Base salary is just one part of the overall compensation at Standard Bots. All Full-Time Employees are eligible for Employee Stock Options. We also offer a package of benefits including paid time off, medical/dental/vision insurance, life insurance, disability insurance, and 401(k) to regular full-time employees.
