We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead, mentor, and grow a team of engineers within the Experience Mission!
Situated at the heart of the Content Platform R&D studio, the team is central to the ingestion, distribution, management, knowledge, and growth of all content experienced through Spotify products. The team is critical in managing this vast content ecosystem.
We make crucial decisions impacting content appropriateness, availability, quality, and accuracy across Spotify. Using reactive and proactive mechanisms, we apply platform and business policies informed by content, user, financial, and experiential context, making decisions that benefit Creators, Consumers, and Spotify.
You will be responsible for the team's execution, delivery, and overall health, ensuring they have the context, support, and autonomy needed to build impactful solutions for content management at Spotify. You’ll also support the organisation's culture and approach from a squad ownership model, with systems, problems, and expertise split by squad, to a product area-first model that emphasises cross-squad collaboration, higher-altitude problem solving, and a need for flexibility and adaptability.
Working closely with Product Managers, peer Engineering Managers, and Staff Engineers, you will guide your team in developing, operating, and iterating on the systems that manage Spotify's content catalog. You will also play a key role in shaping your domain's product & engineering roadmap and strategy, ensuring alignment across competence, squads, the broader goals of Content Platform, and Spotify.

What You'll Do- Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing team, fostering their professional growth and career development through coaching, feedback, and performance management.
- Ensuring timely and high-quality delivery of projects that contribute to our objectives. Champion operational excellence and sound engineering practices.
- Partner with collaborators to define the vision, strategy, and roadmaps for problem domains, the Product Area, and your team while ensuring they align with business needs and technical opportunities (including the appropriate use of technologies like ML).
- Cultivate a healthy, collaborative, and inclusive environment where engineers feel empowered, challenged, and productive. Build strong relationships with partners across Spotify.
- Champion and cultivate a culture of adaptability and continuous evolution within your team and Product Area. Coach engineers and peers to navigate changing requirements, proactively identify and seize opportunities rather than waiting for perfect definition, and embrace a fluid, dynamic approach to problem-solving that moves beyond traditional squad boundaries to deliver impact where it's needed most.
- Provide technical guidance, ensuring the team makes sound architectural and technological choices. Facilitate discussions and decisions around building scalable, extensible, and reliable content management solutions.
- Effectively communicate team progress, challenges, and plans to partners across different levels and functions within the organisation, including management, peers, trust & safety teams, legal, and feature teams across Spotify.
Who You Are- You have proven experience managing and leading software engineering teams, including hiring, coaching, and performance management. Ideally, you are spending more energy coaching fellow managers and peers.
- You possess a strong technical background in software development, ideally with experience in backend systems, platform development, data processing, or large-scale distributed systems.
- You are passionate about people leadership and creating environments where engineers, engineering managers and product managers can thrive in a collaborative environment.
- You have excellent communication and collaboration skills, capable of working effectively with both technical and non-technical collaborators across multiple levels of seniority.
- You are experienced in engineering execution and feel that, as the engineering industry has shifted, there are other ways to solve problems than the traditional approaches.
- You demonstrate strong strategic and product thinking and the ability to align squad, PA and engineering goals with broader organisational objectives.
- You have a good understanding of system design, architecture, and operational concerns and are a proponent of iterative design, striking the right balance between the long-term and short-term solutions.
- While deep ML expertise is not required, an understanding of its concepts and applications, particularly in content analysis or decision-making systems, is a plus.
Where You'll Be- This role is based in Stockholm (Sweden) or London (UK).
- We offer you the flexibility to work where you work best! There will be some in person meetings, but still allows for flexibility to work from home.
