Why This Job is Featured on The SaaS Jobs
Motion design is increasingly central in SaaS, where product value is often communicated through launches, onboarding moments, and narrative-led marketing across many channels. This role sits at that intersection, translating complex, technical work into motion systems that can travel across web, social, film, and presentations—an important capability for modern SaaS brands, especially those shipping new concepts and features to broad audiences.
For a long-term SaaS career, the work builds durable strengths: creating repeatable motion patterns that support a brand system, collaborating tightly with cross-functional partners, and adapting assets to different surfaces without losing clarity. The emphasis on storyboarding, prototyping, and consistent execution maps well to SaaS environments where iteration, stakeholder alignment, and multi-format delivery are everyday realities.
This position tends to suit an experienced motion designer who prefers craft-heavy, hands-on production while also contributing to how a motion language is defined and applied. It will likely appeal to professionals who enjoy ambiguity in subject matter, can turn abstract ideas into understandable visuals, and are comfortable working closely with writers, designers, and marketing partners to land a coherent message.

Job Description
About the Team
OpenAI didn’t begin as a traditional company. It began as an idea: that artificial intelligence could be developed in a way that benefits everyone. As a creative team, our role is to help make surethe work behind that idea is understood, as it leaves the lab and meets the world.
This company works at the frontier of intelligence. Like any frontier, it’s unfinished, constantly shifting, and still being explored. Our job is to stay close to that uncertainty and help shape how this story gets told,in a way that feels grounded and human. We do this through campaigns, launches, films, brand systems, and work that doesn’t fit neatly into any of those categories yet. This team is for people who want to help shape something from the beginning.
About the Role

This is a hands-on role focused on craft and execution. You’ll work closely with designers, writers, producers, and marketing partners to deliver motion that is clear, thoughtful, and consistent with OpenAI’s brand.
To us, creativity is a team sport. Ideas get better when you talk them through and build on each other’s thinking. We value curiosity over certainty, kindness over ego, and the ability to balance craft with decisiveness.
In this role, you will
Design and produce motion assets for marketing and communications, including campaigns, product launches, films, social content, web, and presentations.
Translate complex ideas into clear, engaging motion that supports marketing goals and audience understanding.
Collaborate with brand, marketing, and communications partners throughout the creative process - from concept to final delivery.
Contribute to and apply OpenAI’s motion design principles and systems across channels.
Develop storyboards, motion studies, and prototypes to explore and communicate ideas.
Execute high-quality animations with strong attention to detail, pacing, and consistency.
Adapt work for multiple platforms and formats while maintaining brand standards.
Partner with producers and project managers to scope work, manage timelines, and deliver on deadlines.
Participate in reviews and critiques, providing and incorporating clear, constructive feedback.
You might thrive in this role if you
Bachelor’s degree in Design, Animation, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
8+ years of experience in motion design, with a portfolio demonstrating strong brand and marketing work.
Proficiency in industry-standard motion design and animation tools.
Strong fundamentals in storytelling, timing, composition, typography, and visual systems.
Experience creating motion for marketing and communication touchpoints.
Ability to work collaboratively across disciplines and communicate design decisions clearly.
Comfort working in a fast-paced, evolving environment with a high bar for quality.
