Why This Job is Featured on The SaaS Jobs
This Software Engineer, Insights role sits at a core SaaS junction where product usage data becomes something customers can trust and teams can operate from. In subscription and consumption models, the ability to instrument, define, and surface metrics is part of the product itself, especially when analytics informs pricing, renewals, and targeting. The remit spans logging, pipelines, APIs, and dashboards, placing the work close to how an AI-driven SaaS platform proves value and explains outcomes.
For a SaaS engineer, the long-term payoff is fluency in end-to-end measurement systems that hold up under scrutiny. Building auditable metrics, aligning definitions across functions, and improving observability are durable skills across modern SaaS, whether the company sells by seat, usage, or hybrid models. Exposure to natural language query on top of a warehouse also reflects a broader shift toward agentic interfaces layered over analytics.
This is best suited to an engineer who prefers ownership over a full data-to-UI loop and enjoys cross-functional collaboration without losing focus on correctness and latency. It will fit someone who likes translating ambiguous questions about usage into concrete schemas, services, and interfaces, and who is comfortable moving between backend engineering and analytics infrastructure in a hybrid office setting.

Job Description
About the Role:
We're seeking a software engineer to join the Insights team within the Billing and Insights charter that underpins Glean's consumption-based pricing, product analytics and user targeting. This team owns the end-to-end stack that makes our AI products explainable and measurable for customers and internal teams—from logging and usage pipelines to Insights dashboards, self-serve logs, user targeting platform and natural language query(NLQ)-powered agents on top of our data warehouse.
As an SWE on this team, you'll design and build data pipelines, backend services, and customer-facing experiences that make Glean's value visible and trustworthy. You'll work closely with Product, Data Science, Finance, Marketing and Go-To-Market to ensure that every metric we show is accurate, auditable, and aligned across internal and external views.
You will:
- Design and implement reliable data pipelines and services that summarize deployment log data into daily user-, team-, department-, and agent-level metrics powering the Insights dashboards.
- Build and evolve backend APIs and services that sit between our product logs, warehouses, and the Insights UI, with a high bar for correctness, debuggability, and latency.
- Contribute to the NLQ for Insights initiative by extending the agentic loop and tool library over our Insights warehouse so moderators and admins can ask natural-language questions and get accurate, explainable answers.
- Build user targeting platform for marketing and growth campaigns.
- Improve observability, alerting, and backfill workflows for Insights jobs so metric issues are caught early and resolved safely via idempotent backfills.
- Partner with Pricing, Finance, Data, Marketing and Product to keep internal dashboards and external Insights views aligned on core definitions (e.g., active users, assistant and agent usage, utilization) and to support usage-based pricing and renewals.
About you:
- 5+ years of industry software engineering experience, including meaningful ownership of production services or analytics systems.
- Strong experience building backend services and APIs in one or more of: Golang, Java, Typescript, or Python, and comfort jumping across the stack when needed (from data pipelines to APIs to web UX).
- Proficiency in SQL and experience working with modern data warehouses or analytics stacks.
Location:
- This role is hybrid (4 days a week in our San Francisco office).
Compensation & Benefits:
The standard base salary range for this position is $140,000 - $265,000 annually. Compensation offered will be determined by factors such as location, level, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Certain roles may be eligible for variable compensation, equity, and benefits.
We offer a comprehensive benefits package including competitive compensation, Medical, Vision, and Dental coverage, generous time-off policy, and the opportunity to contribute to your 401k plan to support your long-term goals. When you join, you'll receive a home office improvement stipend, as well as an annual education and wellness stipends to support your growth and wellbeing. We foster a vibrant company culture through regular events, and provide healthy lunches daily to keep you fueled and focused.
We are a diverse bunch of people and we want to continue to attract and retain a diverse range of people into our organization. We're committed to an inclusive and diverse company. We do not discriminate based on gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion, civil or family status, age, disability, or race.
