About the Team
OpenAI’s Executive Recruiting team is responsible for identifying, attracting, and hiring exceptional senior leaders who will guide the company through its next phases of growth. We partner closely with executives across the organization to define leadership needs, shape org design, and deliver high-judgment search strategies that bring in world-class talent.
About the Role
We are looking for a highly skilled Executive Sourcer who combines exceptional research capability, strategic insight, and relationship-building skills. You will be responsible for deeply understanding leadership roles, surfacing world-class talent, and shaping the earliest stages of executive searches.
You’ll partner closely with Executive Recruiters and senior leaders to drive clarity, drive alignment on ideal profiles, and build diverse, high-quality pipelines for some of OpenAI’s most business-critical searches.
As an Executive Sourcer, you will play a critical role in driving top-of-funnel strategy, proactive outreach, market mapping, and talent intelligence for our highest-impact non-technical leadership hires.
What You’ll Do
Lead research, market mapping, and top-of-funnel strategy across a portfolio of non-technical executive searches (e.g., Finance, Legal, Operations, People, Policy, Comms, GTM).
Build and deliver diverse, high-caliber talent pipelines, proactively identifying exceptional leaders through deep market research, outbound outreach, and ongoing relationship development.
Partner with Executive Recruiters and hiring leaders to refine role requirements, ideal candidate profiles, and search strategies.
Conduct thoughtful first-touch candidate engagement, building trust, assessing interest, and positioning OpenAI’s mission and opportunities with clarity.
Act as a strategic advisor on talent markets, competitive landscapes, compensation trends, and organizational structures.
Develop and maintain evergreen talent networks for repeatable or evolving leadership needs.
Synthesize market signals and insights to help refine search direction, scope, and sequencing.
Navigate highly confidential searches with exceptional judgment, discretion, and operational rigor.
Partner with recruiting operations to ensure accurate documentation, progress tracking, and executive-level updates.
What You’ll Bring
5–10+ years of sourcing or research experience, ideally in executive search or high-growth tech.
Proven ability to run research-heavy, zero→one searches and produce strong, targeted pipelines for senior-level roles.
Deep expertise in search strategy, including talent mapping, competitive research, and proactive outreach.
Exceptional written communication—able to craft compelling outreach, talent insights, and search briefs.
Ability to quickly understand and articulate complex leadership roles across Finance, Legal, People, Operations, GTM, and Policy.
Strong relationship-building skills, with an ability to establish credibility and trust at the executive level.
High judgment and discretion, especially when navigating sensitive or confidential leadership searches.
A fast-moving, proactive operating style with strong prioritization skills.
Strong partnership instincts—collaborative, communicative, and comfortable in highly ambiguous environments.
Nice to Have
Experience supporting non-technical (GTM, Operations, Marketing, Finance, etc.) leadership roles.
Background at an executive search firm or internal exec recruiting team.
Experience engaging candidates at VP, SVP, C-suite, or founder level.
Global research experience or exposure to international markets.
