Why This Job is Featured on The SaaS Jobs
This Senior Backend Engineer role sits squarely in the kind of SaaS infrastructure work that underpins modern observability and security platforms. With a cloud native product running microservices on AWS and operating at petabyte scale across regions, the work reflects the realities of multi tenant SaaS: sustained ingestion, high query volumes, and system behavior that must remain predictable under load and failure.
From a SaaS career perspective, the scope builds durable experience in designing and operating distributed services where performance, reliability, and cost are inseparable. Ownership of a set of microservices plus on call responsibility creates exposure to the full service lifecycle, including instrumentation, incident response, and iterative efficiency improvements. The emphasis on algorithms over large datasets and automated testing maps well to backend roles across data intensive SaaS companies, especially those with 24x7 operational expectations.
The position is best suited to an engineer who prefers clear ownership boundaries and is comfortable being accountable for production outcomes, not just feature delivery. It also fits someone ready to lead within a team while still staying close to architecture and implementation details, particularly in JVM ecosystems and large scale backend design.

These features would run on our backend systems that can handle enormous amounts of customer data, operate with high tolerance for errors, and can scale up as needed. These systems are responsible for managing and processing petabytes of data.
- Act as a team lead in the team.
- Write robust & re-usable code.
- Own a small set of microservices, analyze and improve the efficiency, scalability,
reliability and cost for the same.
- Act as a primary on-call for owned services, responding to service degradations in a timely manner.
- Design and implement extremely high-volume, fault-tolerant, scalable backend systems that process and manage petabytes of customer data.
- Analyze and improve the efficiency, scalability, and reliability of our backend systems.
- Write robust code; demonstrate its robustness through automated tests.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- B.Tech/ M.Tech/ BSc or MSc in Computer Science or a related discipline.

- Understanding the performance characteristics of commonly used data structures (maps, lists, trees, etc).
- Desire to learn Scala, an up-and-coming JVM language (scala-lang.org).
Desired Qualifications and Skills
- Experience in big data / 24x7 commercial service / planet scale product development.
- Experience in agile software development (test-driven development, iterative and incremental development).
- Experience using Sumo Logic products or other observability products for reliability and security.
- Experience in multi-threaded programming and distributed systems (desirable).
- Experience leading scrum teams planning and day to day execution
