Why This Job is Featured on The SaaS Jobs
This Engineering Manager role sits in the part of a SaaS business that most directly determines how quickly product teams can ship and how safely they can operate at scale. Platform Infrastructure and Developer Experience work is foundational in subscription software, where reliability, security posture, and repeatable delivery paths become product differentiators as usage grows. The remit spanning multi cloud foundations, internal developer platform capabilities, and AI enabled operations reflects where modern SaaS platforms are investing: making engineering throughput measurable and sustainable.
For a SaaS career, the long term value is exposure to the systems and decision frameworks that enable scale. Leading work across CI/CD, observability, compliance, and cost efficiency builds fluency in the operational economics of SaaS. The role also connects platform engineering to go to market via an external developer platform, providing perspective on how internal capabilities can translate into customer facing offerings.
This position best suits an experienced engineering leader who enjoys shaping technical direction while staying close to execution details. It will appeal to someone comfortable mediating trade offs across security, reliability, and developer productivity, and who communicates clearly with product and executive stakeholders. Interest in applying LLM or agent based automation to infrastructure workflows is a meaningful fit signal.
The section above is editorial commentary from The SaaS Jobs, provided to help SaaS professionals understand the role in a broader industry context.
Job Description
The Platform team creates the technology that enables Spotify to learn quickly and scale easily, enabling rapid growth in our users and our business around the globe. Spanning many disciplines, we work to make the business work; creating the infrastructure, tooling, frameworks, and capabilities needed to welcome a billion customers.
What if the systems you built changed how millions of developers work, not just at Spotify, but across the industry? The Platform Developer Experience (PDX) team builds the infrastructure and internal products that power how Spotify engineers ship software. Within PDX, the Platform Infrastructure team is building the next generation of cloud and compute foundations that power our internal developer platform and the AI agents running on top of it, and help bring those capabilities to market through Portal, Spotify's external developer platform built on Backstage.
You'll join the Platform Infrastructure team within the Platform Developer Experience (PDX) studio. The team owns the cloud foundations, security posture, and developer tooling that the rest of Platform, and ultimately all of Spotify R&D, depends on. You'll lead a team working at the intersection of cloud infrastructure, platform security, and developer experience.

What You'll Do
-
Lead and grow a team of AI-native engineers responsible for Platform’s multi-cloud foundation across GCP and AWS, our security posture, and the developer platform that thousands of Spotify engineers depend on every day.
-
Define the technical vision for our cloud platform, and make the architectural calls that shape how the rest of R&D builds, ships, and operates.
-
Own the security and compliance posture of the developer platform end-to-end, ensuring secure-by-default outcomes for every team building on top of us.
-
Drive the evolution of our developer tooling stack (CI/CD, build systems, deployment, observability) so engineers ship safely and quickly along golden paths instead of bespoke setups.
-
Bring AI-native capabilities into platform operations, integrating LLM and agent-based automation into infrastructure changes, security remediation, and developer workflows.
-
Partner with product, go-to-market, and engineering teams to bring our capabilities to market, shaping how the broader industry manages cloud, security, and tooling on top of Portal.
-
Set and enforce production-grade standards for reliability, performance, and cost-efficiency across services operating at Spotify scale.
-
Build a team culture grounded in curiosity, technical rigor, and continuous learning in emerging AI systems.
Who You Are
-
You have 3+ years of experience leading engineering teams working on cloud infrastructure, platform engineering, or developer tooling at scale.
-
You have 5+ years of backend or infrastructure engineering experience, with deep expertise in cloud platforms (GCP, AWS).
-
You have a strong grounding in platform security: IAM, secrets management, vulnerability and patch management, and supply chain security.
-
You have solid command of modern developer tooling (CI/CD, build systems, deployment patterns, observability) and an opinion on what makes platform self-service actually work at scale.
-
You have a track record of designing and operating distributed systems where reliability, cost, and security trade-offs are first-class concerns.
-
You're familiar with AI and LLM-based systems, and you have a point of view on how agents and automation can be responsibly applied to infrastructure operations.
-
You communicate clearly across engineers, product, security, and executive stakeholders, explaining complex trade-offs and earning alignment without losing nuance.
-
You create inclusive environments where diverse perspectives strengthen technical and product decisions.
-
You actively seek feedback and invest in growing yourself and your team.
Where You'll Be
-
We offer you the flexibility to work where you work best! For this role, you can be within the North Americas region as long as we have a work location.
-
This team operates within the Eastern Standard time zone for collaboration.
