Why This Job is Featured on The SaaS Jobs
This Corporate Tax Manager role stands out in the SaaS landscape because it sits at the intersection of recurring revenue economics, equity heavy compensation, and public company reporting. With work flowing into SEC filings and financial statements, it reflects the compliance rigor that mature, scaled SaaS operators must maintain while navigating multi state and global considerations.
For a long term SaaS career, the position builds fluency in how tax decisions connect to product led growth realities like stock based compensation, R&D activity, and cross border expansion. Ownership of ASC 740 provision work, audit responses, and advisor oversight develops a repeatable operating model that is portable across public SaaS businesses. The emphasis on automation and AI assisted workflows also signals a shift in finance functions toward data enabled, tool driven execution rather than purely manual compliance.
This role is best suited to a tax professional who prefers high visibility accountability and enjoys translating technical conclusions for non tax stakeholders. It fits someone comfortable coordinating external advisors, partnering with Internal Audit, and improving processes while keeping deadlines and controls intact. Experience in environments with public company expectations and distributed collaboration will align well with the day to day.
The section above is editorial commentary from The SaaS Jobs, provided to help SaaS professionals understand the role in a broader industry context.
Job Description
Toast creates technology to help restaurants and local businesses succeed in a digital world, helping business owners operate, increase sales, engage customers, and keep employees happy.
As Corporate Tax Manager, you’ll be responsible for the global income tax provision and the US income tax compliance lifecycle, along with other projects. This is a high-visibility role on a lean, high-performing team. You’ll work closely with senior leadership, external advisors, and cross-functional partners — with your work flowing directly into our SEC filings and financial statements.
We’re looking for a technically excellent tax professional who brings deep ASC 740 expertise and the curiosity to modernize how we work — leveraging AI-assisted tools and automation to evolve traditional tax processes in a fast-moving, public SaaS environment.
A day in the life (Responsibilities)
- Own the preparation and review of the quarterly and annual ASC 740 provision, including current and deferred tax analysis, uncertain tax positions (ASC 740-10 / FIN 48), valuation allowance assessment, and effective tax rate (ETR) analysis.
- Document and test income tax-related internal controls over financial reporting (ICFR) in partnership with Internal Audit.
- Oversee the preparation of the federal consolidated return and state/local income tax returns, Globe information returns, extensions, and estimated tax payments — primarily through external advisors — ensuring timely and accurate filing.
- Critically evaluate advisor work product to ensure returns reflect the company’s tax positions, elections, and planning strategies.
- Manage responses for federal and state income tax notices and audits; coordinate with external counsel, and maintain contemporaneous documentation of tax positions.
- Monitor legislative and regulatory changes affecting multi-state apportionment, nexus positions, and estimated tax obligations.
- Partner cross-functionally with internal and external stakeholders on stock-based compensation tax accounting (ASC 718), R&D credit studies, transfer pricing calculations, and the tax implications of corporate transactions and M&A activity.
- Prepare/review tax account reconciliations for monthly accruals related to above-the-line tax items, and manage the journal entry process with accounting and F&S.
- Identify and implement opportunities to leverage generative AI, automation, and data transformation tools to improve efficiency across tax research, data collection, and recurring workflows.
- Other ad hoc projects on an as needed basis
What you'll need to thrive (Requirements)
- 7+ years of progressive corporate income tax experience with a mixture of Big 4 public accounting background and in-house experience; experience with a public company profile strongly preferred.
- Solid hands-on experience in ASC 740 US GAAP income tax accounting, including deferred taxes, stock-based compensation (ASC 718), uncertain tax positions (ASC 740-10), and valuation allowance analysis.
- Good understanding of US GAAP to Local GAAP, Local GAAP to Local Tax concept.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA license preferred.
- Working knowledge of US federal income tax, multi-state apportionment, nexus, and estimated tax management.
- Self-starter who is able to work with a distributed workforce, be self-reliant and motivated to take on tasks and demonstrate the ability to work with service providers to drive tasks and projects to completion.
- High proficiency in Excel; comfort with or active interest in data transformation tools (e.g., Alteryx, Power Query) or AI-assisted tax workflows.
- Clear, confident communicator who can translate complex tax concepts for senior leadership and non-tax stakeholders.
What will help you stand out (Nonessential Skills/Nice to Haves)
- Experience with tax provision software — ONESOURCE Tax Provision, CorpTax, or equivalent.
- Master’s degree in Taxation (MST) or MBA.
- Exposure to Pillar Two / BEPS 2.0 and global minimum tax analysis.
- Experience with transfer pricing in a SaaS or technology company.
- Familiarity with ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, SAP) and financial close processes.
- Fluency in using AI tools, such as ChatGPT, Gemini and/or Claude
