Why This Job is Featured on The SaaS Jobs
This Infrastructure and Developer Tooling role sits at the heart of a SaaS engineering organisation, where delivery speed and reliability are product features in their own right. In a cloud hosted environment, internal platforms like CI/CD, deployment automation, and developer tooling directly shape how often software ships and how safely changes reach production, making the work materially tied to SaaS outcomes rather than isolated ops tasks.
For a long-term SaaS career, the role builds durable platform engineering skills that translate across product companies: treating internal engineers as customers, using metrics to prioritise friction removal, and owning services end to end with monitoring and incident response. Experience spanning tooling, infrastructure, and observability also supports future paths into SRE, platform product management, or broader infrastructure leadership, because it develops judgment around tradeoffs in reliability, scalability, and developer experience.
This position fits an engineer who prefers leverage over surface area, improving systems that many teams depend on instead of focusing solely on feature delivery. It will suit someone comfortable collaborating across platform, security, and product boundaries, and who values operational accountability through on call and production ownership while still writing production grade application code.

Job Description
Hi, Future Homie!
At Homebase, you’ll join a team that’s bold, fast-moving, and obsessed with helping small businesses thrive. We build with empathy, act with urgency, and take big swings that drive real-world impact. Here, every Homie shows up to raise the bar, support one another, and celebrate wins as a team.
We’re not just building an app—we’re building unstoppable teams. So what do you say, are you in?
📍Your Impact Starts Here
We're looking for a Software Engineer (Infrastructure/Developer Tooling) who loves building the tools that make other engineers more effective. You'll be a key contributor to Homebase's platform infrastructure team—writing the internal tooling, automation, and services that power how our engineering organization builds and ships software every day.
This is a role for someone who thinks of internal engineers as customers, cares deeply about developer experience, and brings strong software fundamentals to the infrastructure space.
These are the key ways you'll contribute and create impact in this role:
Build, maintain, and improve internal developer tools that streamline engineering workflows, CI/CD pipelines, and deployments
Own the implementation of well-scoped features end-to-end—from writing the code to monitoring it in production
Identify and address friction points in the developer experience, using data and metrics to prioritize improvements
Contribute to the reliability and scalability of our AWS-based infrastructure within defined domains
Write clean, testable, maintainable code that upholds and advances Homebase engineering standards
Collaborate cross-functionally with platform, security, and product teams to understand requirements and make sure your work fits the broader picture
Actively participate in on-call rotations, helping identify and resolve infrastructure issues
Collaborate with teammates and begin influencing engineering decisions on your team
Use AI tools to drive personal effectiveness and improve your workflows
🚀 The Foundation for Success - These are the experiences and strengths that will set you up for success in this role:
3+ years of experience in Software Development or Infrastructure Engineering—your roots are in writing software, and your infra experience grows from there
Strong development background in Ruby or Golang—you're comfortable writing production-quality code and building internal services in at least one of these languages
Hands-on experience building internal platforms or tooling that other systems rely on—you've treated it like a product, using data and feedback to drive what you build next
Genuine interest in developer experience: you think about the internal engineer as a customer and are energized by reducing friction for your teammates
Some hands-on experience with AWS or cloud infrastructure in production—you don't need to be an infrastructure expert, but you understand core concepts and can navigate cloud environments with confidence
Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform preferred) and containerized application deployment
Experience with CI/CD systems and an understanding of how software delivery pipelines work
Ability to use observability tools to identify, debug, and resolve issues in production
Ability to work across team boundaries with platform, security, and product teams—keeping the right people informed and your work rarely landing as a surprise
Strong sense of ownership—you deliver on commitments, monitor what you ship, and follow through on risks to timely delivery
Growth mindset: you integrate feedback, support teammates' development, and communicate effectively
