Why This Job is Featured on The SaaS Jobs
This Director, Assistant Controller remit stands out in SaaS because it sits at the intersection of subscription-business complexity and public-company rigor. The mandate to elevate close, reporting, and technical accounting signals a finance organisation moving toward tighter governance and external scrutiny, which is a common inflection point for later-stage SaaS companies. Cross-functional partnering with FP&S, Tax, Corp Dev, Legal, and engineering on ERP optimisation reflects how modern SaaS finance teams operate as systems owners, not just scorekeepers.
For a SaaS finance leader, the long-term career value comes from building repeatable infrastructure that scales. Experience improving close timelines, strengthening documentation and controls, and serving as the in-house US GAAP authority translates directly across SaaS environments where recurring revenue, product-led changes, and evolving contracts pressure accounting policy. Exposure to audit leadership, automation in Oracle Fusion, and M&A support also broadens the toolkit beyond corporate accounting into platform and transaction work.
This role best fits someone who prefers operational ownership and enjoys turning standards into day-to-day execution through a team. It suits a leader comfortable balancing technical depth with process design, and who is motivated by measurable improvements in reliability, speed, and audit readiness within a SaaS operating model.

Job Description
About the team/role
We're hiring a Director, Assistant Controller to help build the accounting function Checkr needs for its next chapter. Reporting to the Controller, you'll inherit a talented team of 10 and own the corporate accounting— close, financial reporting, and technical accounting — partnering closely with FP&S, Tax, Corp Dev, and Legal.
We need someone who has seen what "great" looks like at a public company and can bring those standards here — tightening our close process, leveling up our technical accounting bench and putting the controls and documentation in place that will hold up to external scrutiny.
What you’ll do
- Lead and develop a high-performing team across GL accounting, treasury, and technical accounting.
- Design, implement and maintain appropriate accounting policies and processes to enable accurate and timely financial reporting in compliance with US GAAP.
- Lead month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close, driving timeline reductions and establishing the controls and reconciliation standards expected of a public company.
- Serve as the in-house US GAAP technical accounting expert.
- Partner with Corp Eng on ERP (Oracle Fusion) optimization and automation across the accounting tech stack.
- Lead the external audit, partnering with the external auditor to ensure timely completion of annual audit.
- Partner with corporate development to support M&A activities.
What you bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field; CPA certification strongly preferred.
- 12+ years of experience with an increasing level of scope and leadership responsibility; Big 4 and industry experience preferred.
- Deep technical expertise in U.S. GAAP and other financial reporting requirements.
- Demonstrated track record of shortening close cycles and building durable processes — not just operating existing ones.
- Experience operating in a SOX-controlled environment is a plus.
- An A-player mindset with a strong bias for action: you raise the bar, move with urgency, stay resilient through ambiguity, and take ownership to deliver meaningful outcomes.
